Why would a person want to purchase and use a ring that limits cyclic travel while flying. I am still a novice but it doesn't make sense to me. If you want to limit your cyclic travel why not adjust your ATV's for aileron/elevator and check it with a pitch gage?

Because the swashplate isn't square.
If you set up your cyclics for max throw individually left/right and fore/aft, the swashplate will bind if the stick is moved into the corners. So for example full forward and right will cause binding and may pop off a linkage or two. If you reduce the ATVs for no binding in corners, you don't get full travel at the sides. The ring also helps in stick stirring when doing 3D stuff.
