Hello guys,

for those of you who flew the Avant, how does it compare to the Fury (Extreme or Tempest) in aggressive manuvers, such as fast tic tocs and such ? also, how does it compare in autos ?

thanks !

Seroiusly, either get both and report back, or send Chopper an email. Besides Augusto and Ray Dog, he's the only one I have heard of that has flown both.

Both are good helis...no, both are excellent helis. I don't intend to debate this on an open forum, but I am very happy with the Avant so far. I also have a great faith in Augusto and his engineering capacity to make the machine one of, if not the best machines on the market. August is also commited to making things right.

If everyone in your area flys Furys, then the best machine for you will be the Fury...or the Hirobo, or Avant, or Raptor, or whatever if that is the dominant machine that you can get help with and support for.

My intent will be to offer help and support for the Avant as well as show what the machine can do, then the Avant will be the dominant machine and the machine of choice.

Hey Paul,

hope i dont sound too cocky, but about help and support, i am usually the guy who is giving the help and support to local pilots.

I'm surprised this question/thread is so old because there is still no real solid answer yet.

So I'm bumping it to the top for some more discussion.

After I sell my Raptor 90, (cheap plug alert! See my ad in the CLASSIFIEDS section!) I'm going to either buy a Stratus or an Avant.

I'm still torn between the two. Right now I'm leaning toward the MA because it appears that I can buy a Stratus for $200 less than everything you need for the Avant (even if you buy the cheaper EVO, that's how it comes out, it seems). However, right now, if they were priced the same, I would go for the Avant (since they are so close in performance and cutting edge features anyway). I also like the fact that the Avant has a belt driven tail . . . I've seen too many of my friends, too many times, just lightly tap their Fury in the grass and ruin a gear just like that!

Glenn.

I'm not really an R/C pilot, I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night!

I think the Avant has several things that I like about it over the Fury. One is the tank is in the back which doesn't adjust the CG while you're flying. Two, the Avant is way easier to work on. Three, I think it feels lighter in the air, and has a more touchy cyclic. It has a lower parts count, and is a lot cheaper to fix. The whole belt drive vs. torque tube drive is a whole other issue. I really can't tell the difference with the belt drive on the Avant. As far as precision maneuvers, I feel more in control of what the Avant is doing in the air. I've owned several Fury's...the pictures are in my gallery. Fury are nice machine. But just my preference

Avant

Watched Augusto beat the crap out of his at the East Coast Extreme fun fly a couple of weeks ago. It had to be about the fastest tic-tocs I've personally seen. He likes to Piro too... A lot

Overall, he beat the piss out of that machine, I was pretty impressed. A couple of other guys were getting theirs setup, but I wasn't paying attention to it. I should note that one of Augusto's machines had the new head on it. I'm not sure which one was flying.

I can say that it's a sturdy machine, and the belt doesn't seem to affect anything. FWIW...

The first Avant he took up Saturday was mine. It has the X-spec head and 70 duro o-rings w/ "B" dampeners. He beat the piss out of it! I was shocked when he did a piro-flipping take-off and didn't stop chaosing it until it ran out of gas. It was also the first time I saw someone do tic-tocs on a dime. Both his helis had the new head. He flew the Avant EFX more than the other one. Saturday he was using V-blades and Sunday he used MAH's. He had an engine problem sunday, it kept going lean no matter how much he richened it. I've flown both the Avant and the Stratus. the Avant is much more sensitve to collective inputs because of it's shorter travel. I let a friend fly the Avant and he said it felt like it was on roids. I like both quite honestly. The Stratus now has the tank in the back which helps with CG. One thing I don't like about the Stratus is that it's a pain in the a!! to change the second plug on a VH. I hope to beat on my Stratus some more time permitting. the days are getting to darn short.
