Kyosho Caliber 30 & 60 - Concept - Nexus > Nexus top end pitch- do i need a tune pipe?

Hi all.

I have a Nexus with a 32SX-H (ABC engine) with almost 4 gallons of fuel through it. I use standard 80-20 mixture. No nitro! No synthetic lubricant! The engine still has good compression. And I am using the muffler that comes with the kit.

I have almost 11 degrees of pitch on the top-end. The hi-speed needle is set out 1 turn. The problems are:

1. The climbout sucks.
2. The heli just does not seem to move into forward in strong wind. Just hangs there.

Any opinion on the following:
1. Do I turn in the needle even more? It is ok to close it beyond 1 turn.
2. Do I get a different muffler? If yes, what one?
3. Do I get a tune pipe? If yes, which one would be recommended.
4. Do I decrease the pitch and live with it?
5. Any checks that I might need to do? Checked the throttle barrel already.

Thanks for the help.

With 10% nitro, I have my needle 3/4 out. At 1 full turn, it will barely hover.

drop your top end pitch down 11* is too much run 9-10 you would do much better with 10-15% fuel and no pipe

yes reduce the pitch to 9,
no you dont need a tuned pipe as far as i know there is only one you can find it at tower hobbies. they will help with power.
i run both mine with +9 , -9 they happy.. as well as getting shorter blades i use NHP530 on one and NHP515 on the other helps with 3D.
not so much blade to swing around .. allso check each time to see if any links are lose if they are put new ones on . when i find lose wore ones i put rocket city links on . the elevator i had to fix with jb weld to keep the slop out.. i DONT use wood blades.
what fuel are you useing. i use cool power 15%. the needel valve changes daily heat humity. and its hot here high 90's to hot to fly.. climb out depends on the pitch if you have to much it will bog down. till climb pitch and motot all get together. they do climb out nicely with 9degrees nicely.

teleheli change to 15% check the pitch get down to 9 degrees get the head spead up to at least 17000. nexus's dont like slow head speeds they dont preform for poop.

The guys in our club have found the Nexus muffler to be very restrictive to power. Several have changed them out to Century or the TT upgrade muffler with claims of more power. This being the only change they made at the time. May not cure all your ills but might send you in the right direction. BTW 11 degree is too much pitch, try to keep it closer to 9-10. I have found that slightly under 10 seems to work very well with OS 32 in Raptor with 550 CF blades and Cool Power 30% fuel
YMMV

Too much pitch

Hi all.

Thanks for all the replies. I will recheck the pitch and bring it down to +9/10. And check in a day or two. I would still like to know other methods that I might be able to try.

Nitro in fuel is NO option. So we are left with leaning the engine out, or using a tune pipe.

Comments?
Thanks again.

i use the DF pitch slider on both machines H3122 its a full 1/8 shorter which helps a lot ..as well as the hole clostest to the the pin on the pitch arm and a longer control arm second hole from the outside on the servo jr4000 a bruser on torque 73.6 speed of .19 .
also watch the aileron lever for slop i had to JB weld both as they got really slopy, and new ones were far worse !!!

i agree with skyking . i took the guts out of the standard muffler that did help. midrang is not so soft.

9 degrees with a muffler and no nitro sounds pretty optimistic to me. Try it, check your head speed in a climbout, and if it's less than 1650, get a tuned pipe.

Tuned pipes are very effective on the 32sx. When I was running 30% and a muffler, guys with 15% and a tuned pipe were flying circles around me.

Nitro

Hi Quaid.
Why no nitro. I fly a nexus with everything standard on 15% Byron fuel, and have the high pitch set at 8 degrees. Flies great. Some local rule out there that prohibits Nitro ????

No Nitro!

Hi jack.

No it is not a local rule. The guy I bought the heli from had broken the engine in with no nitro. Did not bother to change.
