Hey Chris,

I am in the market looking for a new heli and am considering the Logo 14 right now. However, I would much rather buy an ION 50. I heard you would make some announcement at Toledo at the end of this week. So my question is whether you will make that announcement for the ION 50 or not and if yes, when do you think, rough estimate, that you will have the ION 50 ready for sale ?

Sorry couldn't resist.

I would not expect to see the Ion 50 or what ever it will be called show on the market till this fall.
I would imagine the R&D will be over the summer to ensure it works as advertised.

Get a Boxed Raptor in the meantime and you will be able to use 90% of your gear on the Ion when it comes out I bet.

Might just be what I do.

I do not want to put a motor in the kit this time. Rather, a matrix of what different motor/battery/gearing options will do to performance. Most of the motors available in this power group will drop right into the mounting if it's done right. Also, there are a lot more choices in this group...available from lots of sources.

Your Hacker would bolt right in, not too sure about the performance.

Gearing...

The gearing available is what I see being the big issue with the C50 13L
Sounds to me like the frames will be real similar then huh?
Gearing going to be shared also?
I would probably just go with an outrunner of some sort.
This one is earmarked for a plank anyhow.

Hey Chris,

I know you are not going to like this question since you have kind of answered it already. But see I am right now considering purchasing a Logo 14 where the total cost would be 2K+, now I would much rather love to buy the Ion 50 however with the weather getting nicer here in NY, I would much rather be flying something next month and in May rather than waiting.

So my question is, when do you think at the earliest, you would have the ION 50 out. I mean if you say August, then I think it will be something for me to contemplate at a much later time but it you say May or June then I think I will hold off on that Logo 14 purchase.

Sorry for asking this question again and again but before I spend $2000 I want to make sure I do my research on this.

IMO wait for the Ion 50 or get the Ion-X now.
I just sold my Logo becuase compared to the Ion the quality, price of repalcement parts and overall fit and feel are not even close.
The 14 may be better, but the plastic and desgin are still similar.

You can get an Ion-X for about that same amount of money if you shop around. Assuming you have the servos, rx and gyro.

Not quite. A Logo 14 kit alone will run around $600. The Ion-X (which seems to be becoming more and more expensive since its release) is well over $1100 for the kit alone.

The power system required for the Ion is more expensive than that of the Logo 14 as well, not to mention the fact that replacement parts for the Ion are exquisitely expensive.

I agree with you there, but.....

the earlier statement that the Ion-X is really comparable to some of the cheaper plastic helis is an inaccurate one.

Make no mistake about it, I will readily buy another Ion-X when the time comes.

What's great about the Ion is......

...it's an excellent platform, period. Meaning, when better motors and batteries come out, the Ion probably will be able to handle them without problem. In a few years, the Hacker and Actro motors typically used in the Ion will be considered weak and obselete, but the Ion design will not. Batteries and motors are getting better and better, and are improving faster than glow.

I think the ION X must be a great model to fly by reading the owners experience but it looks to me that it was tought just as a conversion from their nitro line. I think they should have desined a completly different frame to accept the battery inside: just look at all the new electic designs like logos, joker, 3DMP...
It's safer for the battery and for the wallet...

no its not a conversion , I have both , and fury conversion , and the ion , its by far different , lighter , whole complete side frames , and yes it has most of the parts from the fury , but it also has a different servo lay that is = to the tempest , and the reason why the batteries are like that, is because the weight is farther up toward the disk , meaning its more agile , the other helis like the joker hang way low which meants its harder to sling the heli around in 3D ,and ruff on servos . leverage action , would you use a 100 LB torque wrinch to tighten a bolt to 400 LBs kinda stuff .
So , if you crash alot , LIKE ME , then maybe the joker is for you , he he , but I want performance , Chris did a fine job with this heli , to bad he cant come on this board anymore , he can look but not type ,

I better clarify my previus post: I didn't mean they didn't put much effort in the heli design. it's a good thing to try to use as many parts as possible from they're already existing line: it helps keeping the price down and the result in terms of flying is EXCELLENT.
I'm not a heli desiner but I think there must be a way to protect those batteries better than that... Everybody likes to have a superior machine wich can 3D better than everything else, but if I have to add 800$ to the average crash cost...
I know helis are not desined to crash... if you buy a ferrari you can't complain about running costs but... any heli will crash sooner or later

I cant speak for everyone here but it has been my experience that the batts fly clear of the crash scene in a hurry and damage to them is minimal. This is true of 3 of my helis. My Eco and Trex batts tend to fly out too. I stuffed to Trex in from about 80 feet a while back nose down and it didnt do anything to the batt.

thanks for your comment! I didn't think about the possibility for the battery to be thrown off the heli in case of crash. that would save them and prevent further damage to the on-board electronic.

sorry if I have hijaked the thread! won't continue to do so.

I'd love to see the ion 50 too!
