Well I tightened up my gear mesh since I saw small amounts of Delrin dust on my side frames from the first couple flights. But I think I just learned something about the ION setup. If you have spooled up the head, flown and landed. You must completely stop the motor before taking off again. After flying a bit for 5 minutes I landed and made a small adjustment in my pitch curve and left the head spinning slowly powered my the motor and after I made the adjustment in my transmitter I moved the stick up a tad and BUUUUZZZ!!!!!!!!! The head instantly tried to go to 80% and the copter spun around violently about 3 times and stripped the Tail Drive Gear. I guess since I didn't completely stop the head, the speed controller didn't do a slow ramp up. I guess it goes without saying the stock motor has plenty enough power to tear the azz out of the gears whenever it likes. Oh well. $25 later I'll be back in the air. Any info on this topic would be great.

Yup, electric motors develop full torque when stopped, so at low speed they aren't far off.

What happens is that the speed control will not re-enter it's slow start routine unless the motor comes to a full stop. Add to this the fact that the throttle curve of the control is not very linear and you get big speed changes with small stick movements and it all makes for unhappy gears. This is also why in the directions I say to complete auto's.
