1 piro per full flip is very fast and difficult to mind-meld with - You'd most likely pull it off by accident and never really know how - It'd be a craps shoot.

Better to learn 2 piros per full flip - Break it down into half flips - 1 piro and cyclic stir to take the heli from upright tail-in to inverted nose-in then a 2nd piro and cyclic stir to take the heli from inverted nose-in back to upright tail-in - Try to synchronize the cyclic stick stir with the rotation of the tail of the heli like the stick and the tail are one and the same.

Watch Taipan's animations and study the sync of the cyclic stick stir with the rotation of the tail around the heli mast.

There's a lot going on in this maneuver - Synchronizing the cyclic stirs with the rotation of the heli and timing in the proper collective inputs is all quite a juggle to learn - It'll take some time to get the feel.

Thanks!
This is the first *correct* animation of the curtis' chaos that I saw here (although there are still sometimes discussions about this is really what Curtis ment).

I use right rudder as learnt off vids of Curtis' piroflips

So you have the video and can confirm firsthand that this is what Curtis really means with chaos?

I posted a video of it earlier, flown in reflex sim.

I’m not going to tell you what cyclic inputs you need because if you have to be told, then you’re not ready for this maneuver.

I agree. If you can't figure it out from the video or animation you need to learn to have conscious control at all positions during flight.

Interesting - I've been working on piro tic tocs so I've been doing like half forward and half backward piroflips and was just thinking of going ahead and learning full backwards piroflips next - So cool beans - I also need to work on pirouetting the other direction so I can do full reversals - There's more ways of doing piroflips than I used to realize - Thanks for animating another variation - A lot of us would be stuggling badly without 'em.

Just thrown this up, one piro per flip; http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/...ro_per_flip.zip

Hi,

First I would like to thank Taipan for these great piroflip animations. It does give me an idea of where to start.

I fly mode 1 and I have tried out in Reflex and even with my Trex. What puzzles me is I am not getting the flip (normal to inverted) with a single aileron movement. For example according to the animations, there are 3 points (10, 12, 1 o'clock) which the throttle/aileron stick got to hit before proceeding to the negative pitch side. This I consider a single aileron movement. I have to apply 2 aileron movements or sometimes 3 to acheive a flip (normal to inverted).

Guys....what have I done which is not correct? Any thing that I have missed out? I am pretty sure that I have followed the animations. Please advise.

This is the animation that I am learning with :- http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/...ro_backflip.zip

Taipan, thank you for your nice job
I now can fly 2piro/flip now
Would you please also add the mode one stick movement on the movie of 4piro/flip?

Hi yuktong

Thank you for the compliment. I no longer do animations. Besides 4 piro/flip is hard to follow.

However this is how I learned to do 4 piro/flip. You have to break it up as below;

1) Starting from tail-in do an upright flat piro.
2) Then HALF a 2 piro/flip from tail-in to inverted nose-in.
3) Do an inverted flat piro.
4) Finally HALF a 2 piro/flip from inverted nose-in to upright.

Practice the above and in no time it will blend into a proper 4 or more piroflip!

Cheers,

Kev.

Mode-1

If it takes one large figure-8 stick movement for a 2-piro flip then I believe it should take 2 smaller figure-8 stick movements for a 4-piro flip

That's incorrect, that would imply going from positive pitch to negative pitch & back TWICE as in TWO flips.

For a 4 piro flip, it would look more like two 8's on top of each other. I.e. one 8 in top half with positive pitch and another 8 in bottom 8 for negative pitch.
