I sent ys an email asking this question
here is my email I sent

Dear Sir

I am just wondering how much fuel do you recogmend that we run through our ys80 heli engine before we start to lean it out?
I have heard its 20L but find this hard to believe. Is this true or not?

And they replied

They are all different. You can tell when they are broken in when the needle adjustments stop changing. What will happen is that you will be leaning them as required as they break in. 20L is not out of the question.

i am currently at the 14L mark running the same fuel as you and started to lean out at about the 8l mark. A little leaner when needed. Mine is still so rich but the power it gives is out of this world. Don't just hover for the breaking though light cercetts and that sort of stuff helps bed the ring in more than just hovering. You'll notice it getting better on fuel at about the 10l mark. Mine now at the 14l mark is as fual efficient as my os 61.

I know someone who has Jason Krause (2nd in the XFC) on video - who said that after 1 tank of fuel in his fury he starts to lean out his ys 80 engine. He proclains in all of his vast knowlage that an extensive break in period does almost nothing for helping a YS 80 be any more of an engine, or last any longer. I would follow the "second" best.
