I have a Concept 30 DX in which I drive pretty hard. Before every flight I alway give the tail boom a good tug to make sure it will not slip out on me. Last week I was doing some stall turns and after pulling out of the bottom of a turn my heli started piro'ing and I managed to park it into a tree about 6 ft off the ground. Damage was minimal but after examining the cause of the piro I noticed that the damn tail boom had slid out about a 1/4" so the drive wire was completly disengaged! My question is how can I make absolutly sure that this incedent will not happen again? Has this happend to anyone else and if so how did you resolve this issue?

TIA

A real easy fix; CAREFULLY drill a proper-sized hole through the side frame/boom holder and through the boom. Be sure to stop the drill immediately after it breaks through the aluminum.

Then install a short self-tapping screw like those used to fasten the frame pieces together. The screws that attach the canopy bracket to the inside bottom of the canopy- 3x6mm- are the right size to hold the boom in place, yet not interfere with the drive coupler.

I would post a photo of mine, but...

Tell you what; e-mail me at campbellsl@worldnet.att.net , and I'll send you a pic.

Thnx Steve I will give that a try. Do you experience any frame fatigue by drilling this hole (i.e: boomstrike causes frame to crack)? Should I put two screws one on each side? Do you have a problem with the hole widening up on you?

Dunno about a boomstrike, but I don't think it would. Normal flying won't do it; this ship is nine years old.

One screw is enough.

No problems with the hole wallowing out. If the boom is shifting (which is the only thing that could cause that), you've got bigger problems.

lol, yea she's old... Was sitting on the shelf for about 11 years. Now it's halfway between a SE and SR-X and flies great. The fix worked without a hitch thanx for the info Steve.

Glad I could help.

I meant MINE was nine years old (it was the last one I purchased, in 1993), with plenty of miles on it.

These are durable little birds.

Drill

drill away is the right way to solve the problem
just make the drill the same size as the screw with out the threads on it and it will stay till you take it out.. had to on the sr's as weLL
