Andy,

that is the way I have started doing them, I am finding it easier to do right rudder and anticlockwise with the cyclic some have said left rudder is easier less bogging on the heli ?

Is it one piro to one flip ?

Interesting watching the 3DM dvd's ect concerning left or right piros.
Its about half n half.

Like i said a couple of posts back i like to go right.. thats against the natural "unloading"of the heli but it s feels better to me.
I think the 30 size machines may suffer here but not the 50 and 90 machines.

Out of the Masters
Dunc' Osbourne, yammaguchi, novotny, youngblood, Lison, Jager all go the the right to name a just a few,

Krause, Szabo's, Khuns ect go left...

What are the reasons for people doing f'ward flips as opposed to back flips though, any comments?

Simon,

To be honest I've got right hand piro flips nailed and mastered to a Tee (hopefully more solid that the recording now ), but I have trouble with left hand rotating ones and it's a lot of effort to learn them when I know I can do right handers!

Left hander piro flips require less power from the engine because you are working with the torque rather than against it. Like tony says though on 50's and 90's it doesn't really seem to matter that much.

You can do as many piros to a flip as you like, I tend to vary it, but it's a personal style thing.. 1 piro per flip looks hectic and it can be tricky sometimes to actually get it to work due to the extreme amount of cyclic you need to stuff in (these look better slow IMO). These days I prefer to do lots of fast piros per flip and keep it nailed to a point in the sky.. This is the style mostly seen at 3DM.

I like to do one piro to one flip it's slower and easier for me to see whats going on

Anyone got Reflex that can look at my attempt and give me some tips on it.

just tried to have a look but i havent the 3DMP installed,
can you tell me where you downloaded it from?

BTW.
i started with 1 piro per flip,
bog city, so much cyclic going in and the inputs had to be sooo precise or it would start wondering all over the sky.

To be honest i didnt really understand any other way, i was looking for some sort of instruction on the web and i came accross "how to win 3DM" on the 3DM website, there was a list of all manouvers and diagrams on how to do them,
the piro flip there was 1 piro per flip rotating nose right so i copied it,
funny, now its been removed.
Also there was an .swf floating around runryder showing mode2 stick movements and the heli performing a piro flip with 1 piro.
again, I thought this was the norm so carried on learning 1 piro per flip untill Augusto (i think ) said the swf file was wrong.

Hi Tony,

You can get the 3dmp from http://www.rc-sim.de/index_en.htm under downloads.

Hmm, this is how I've been trying (1 piro per flip). I guage how fast the piro is, then I match my stirring to be at the same rate. I have noticed that I usually don't have enough cyclic to do it well.

Lets say I wanted to do 2 piros/flip, how would I adjust my movements to accomplish this? Also, how do you judge how big of circles to make?

i would say half the stick inputs (smaller circle in the case of all you mode 2ers)
this will half the flip rate,
the smaller circle = more piros and less bogging.

for example one big circle see 's your heli back in the same orientation as when you started. ie 1 piro per flip and a hot engine.

half the circle size i.e less cyclic input and the heli wont travel so much and finish inverted, same again and you'll be back where you started with your heli mechanics buying you a beer in the evening to say thankyou.

looked at your recording
cant give you any tips though really other than try to do multiple piros,
looks better and kinder on the mechanics.
smaller circle,
look at Pete Niotis learning tips.

I will look for you online soon!

Thanks!

Clockwise piroflips

Clockwise - Traveling and Counter Clockwise

Ptarp.. Here are some recordings that I just made. I rarely piroflip counter clockwise in practice so as you'll see, those are a bit less smooth. The idea is to do them slowly so that you're actually flying the maneuver instead of just going through rehearsed stick movements. Hope this helps...

GREAT TUTORIAL

Hey guys, I know this thread is old, but I was just reading the following tutorial. I'm vaguely a newbie, but I found a great tutorial that breaks down the whole trick.
