I've been flying the "Pro-Lites" back to back with a pack of the slightly older "Lites" this last week. Weight of the new cells is pretty much identical to the older cells.

With the old cells, I usually fly for about 8 minutes before I land because the pack is getting "soft" due to voltage slumping. The power is really good for about 5 of those minutes. Typically, I'll put back in something in the neighborhood of 5500mAHr and the pack will land at around 120 degrees.

The new cells fly strong for the entire 8 minutes, I never feel the voltage slump that the old cells exhibit. I have continued the flight on to the 13 minute mark with the last three or four minutes just hovering around. The pack takes in a little less, right at 5000mAHr (6500 when I pushed it to the 13 minute mark) and lands at 110 degrees, or less.

I will endeavor to get some FDR data this week to put something more tangible on this report. But right off, I'm believing these new cells to be a strong push forward.

The new packs also have the balancing connectors on them and so far I have not seen any change from one block to the next when measuring across the pins of the connector.

Good stuff-

20?!? Tony, I don't even think my fridge gets that cold! You gotta move south. Convince your wife that she won't melt and move her down here.

Anyhow, I think you'll like the batts once it gets above 50 degrees or so, does it ever get that warm there?

Pro-lites

During your 8 minute flight - is that 3D flying or just regular sport flying,
will it hold for 8 minutes under continuous 3D?

Thanks!

Hi Buster1

Yeah, that's 8 minutes of what I can do. Which is to say something in between sport and 3D. I do not presume to be a great pilot, but I can pull on a heli pretty good. Sideways stuff, inverted stuff and all the usual single axis maneuvers mixed with a couple two axis moves. I know how to bring a motor to it's knees.

If you really want a solid answer, ask Eric. He has been flying the Pro-lites for a little longer than I have.

Eric...you out there?

Hi, just saw this post

I have right around 55 cycles on the pro-lites now. Here is what I have observed.

They hold voltage very well. I am running a set of 8000's and am sure I can use the 6000's easily now, but with less flight time. I fly for about 6 min of very hard non-stop flying, then probably 1 min of softer stuff and an auto. With an ambient temp of about 80F I am seeing a battery temp of about 125F. The limit right now is the temp on the LRK 14 turn motor I am flying as it is pushing 170 after that flying. I am running a tempest 3D rotor head with 690 V-Blades so it is basically the same as 710's on an extreme head.

Like I said the main limit is motor temp due to loading it pretty hard and running a large rotor diameter. The batteries are taking an average of 5200 mah after my flights. With my older TP packs I was seeing temps around 140F and 6500 mah.

I can fly the heli quite a bit longer, though I would rather land and recharge than back off and fly more relaxed. Running the packs down and pulling the same load will definitely hurt something. With the current config, I would expect very good life out of the packs.

anyway, just my experience with them. I am sure others will share their experiences.

Good. The outrunners really put out some torque. The can motors and outrunners all have their own advantages. The LRK has been working well. The Actro's apear to work even a bit better, due to better cooling.

yep, I will be at Ircha.

Flew the ION at Bham this weekend. Hopefully some people will post their opinions of the power output I have just over 50 cycles on the new Pro Lites and they for some reason got stronger every cycle up to around 30 cycles. They are now much stronger than any of the previous batteries that I flew.

Yup, the ProLite packs are the ONLY battery being made up into Ion packs now.

Just thought I would post my first experience with ION and 5s4p pro lites.
Flew 10min of circuits, flips, loops and rolls.
batteries cool, sec 74, motor 120. batteries took 4500 mah
charge. I love it.

throttle Knob

What do you mean 40-160 on the throttle knob,
Are you lowing the hovering throttle knob to keep the RPM's down,

Is this what you need to do with the new pro-lites??

Thanks
