Does anyone know how to remove the gunk that forms when fuel/oil gets burned on the muffler? I've tried acetone, oven cleaner etc. with little or no results. One fellow told me to use mercuric acid but I'm reluctant to use such harsh chemicals if I don't need to. Any suggestions would be great.

It's all about differential pressure!

Boil the offending part(s) in water on the stove with a tablespoon or two of Cascade automatic dishwash detergent. This not only VERY effective, it is also safe and the pot can be used afterwards. The better half won't be on your case either!

Later!
