Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > YS 80 Surge with GV-1 Governor

Hi all, I have a YS 80 running 25% Cool Power and an Enya 4. I am getting an rpm surge with the governor turned on. It's worse at high idle (1750)rpm but also does it in normal(1550 rpm). Anyone got any idea's?

Thanks

Alot of people have been noticing this with the larger engines .. YS80, and OS91. There's a simple fix. When you initially setup your GV-1, you had to set idle, high, and stop limits. The trick to getting rid of this problem is when you setup limit-idle, set it to 1/4 throttle instead of having the left stick all the way down where idle really is. If you need more clarification, let me know.

yea, your needles are set too rich.

If you're still breaking in the engine, dont use the
GV1. The GV1 requires the engine to be
properly tuned.

The surging is a classic symptom. When you
get the high and mid needle to their final setting
(about 1.25 on the mid and 1/2-5/8 on the high),
the surging will disappear.

I agree, the needles are too rich. Go with those settings and you will be fine.

Do you have the new YS80 barrel in the carb? And yes try to lean it out some and follow Dave's post.

If you still have problem after it is broke in settings are set right and it surges under blade load call YS performance. I worked with Rich for 2 weeks trying to get rid of same problem. The cure ended up being the case. PS make sure that the clutch liner hasn't broke free! YS Rep.

Thanks for all the advise guys. Yes the engine is still breaking in as I have 9 tanks through it. My needles are at 1 3/8 mid, and 1 high. I already set the governor low limit at about 20% throttle. Maybe it's time to start squeezing those needles in a little more, I'll let you all know after the next time out how it goes.
