What is the purpose of this kit exactly? I see a lot of people who had the stripped main gear problem have switched to this and say it looks like a better setup. If it will maybe help me avoid this problem I might look at buying it. Someone please let me know. Thanks.

Delrin

They DTDS upgrade includes the Delrin Gears as well as the metal auto hub. The gears are very strong, and machined instead of molded plastic. The auto hub is constant drive so it allows for aerobatic autos with full tail control. All in all it's definately worth the money.

Split Drive Tail

Dan:

I don't think you'll want a split drive tail on a 30 Sceadu. What the split drive tail does is keep the tail spinning when the engine quits. The blades of a 30 heli just don't have lots of extra umph to drive the tail. If you were exerienced and comfortable with autos, you'd be able to have a split drive tail on a 30 heli. If you get the third bearing block for the mainshaft of your Sceadu, your stock main gear will likely be just fine.

Hedging my answer a little

After having reviewed some of the posts on the Sceadu Main Gear failure, I'm going to change my answer (sort of). If you use the split gear, the 30 won't auto that well. This could increase your damage in an engine out situation. If the stock main gear fails, this would also cause you potential damage. It seems to be a pick-your-poisen scenerio. The extra bearing block and the fact that you are using a 30 would lead me to believe your main gear will be fine. But.......

I wish there was a definative answer,

Sceadu DTDS

Dan,
I highly recomend you the DTDS conversion for the Sceadu.
It´s a nice upgrade.
Of course that with 550mm blades you will have less autorotation capability, but you will also get the security of having tail control during it, so if you have an engine out back wind it will be easyer you control the situation.
if your style of flying is not agressive switch into a 570mm blades that will give you an extra auto capability.
Dont worry about engine power, 32 engines goes ok with that blades too, just reduce a bit your maximum pitch and you will get a better stability also.
I used to fly a Shuttle RG-M with 570mm blades and with a 32 OS engine. with 15% nitro and a Hatori pipe did everything, including F3C manouveres.

THe Sceadu 30

The Sceadu 30 will benifit from having the 3d bearing block add on, The DTDS system will rob you from autorotation power.

The Sceadu 50 on the otherhand really requires the 3rd bearing block to keep the gyroscopic motion of the mains under control. It also keeps the main gear where it needs to be. The main shaft can no longer piviot and flex the upper frames. The 50 can also benifit from the DTDS system for the more acrobatic autorotations. I also think the Delrina gears wouldn't hurt to have with that beast.

So 30 can use but doesn't need the 3rd bearing.

The 50 NEEDS the 3rd bearing excpecially if you are running 600s or 620s and can use the DTDS but doesn't need the DTDS.
