Main Discussion > Poll::: How many fly with fingertips as opposed to thumbs??

I've been flying heli for 15 years now and have always flown with my thumbs and index fingers on the sticks with a neckstrap. I've recently tried flying a little with my thumbs and i'm finding that at least with the rudder I don't seem to inadvertently deflect the rudder with doing large collective movements.

I was curious how the rest of you handled the stix and why you like it.

Thumbs and fingers on right stick and just thumb on left stick. I dunno, it's just how I fly.

Always use the pincer thumb and finger,
When picked up my 1st Tx in 1979 at 11yo i just held it like that as if it were natural.
Only used a neckstrap in the last year.

Right or wrong I'm a thumb man (not dumb man )

Tried a few years back to do finger and thumb using a tray, although I felt more comfortable doing precision hovering, I just didn't like flying around like it. Occasionally I try finger and thumb just to amuse myself

I do both, depending on if I use a strap or not.. which.. depends on my mood. I think, I can be more precise with thumb and middle finer, but I'm more comfortable, no strap, and using just thumb on top.

Rhett... I can't fly, luckily the HC Profi Can!

Thumbs here, learned that way on planks, I've tried the pinch method, just don't feel natural to me.

Started out with thumbs only but changed to pinch after a while. For me the pinch style feels more accurate.

I fly finger and thumb and a neckstrap.I can fly a fixed wing with no neckstrap but wouldn't dare even try to hover a heli with out one.I have a corded XRB and even had to fix a neck strap to its tx because, even although they hover themselves, it just didn't feel comfortable to me.
Anyway, when I learned to fly fixed wing back in '78, my instructor made me fly finger and thumb because "full size pilots don't fly with the palm of their hand flat on top of the stick".

At the end of the day , it gets dark .
