Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > My YS80 dead below 1/3 throttle

My YS 80 delima. Need some input fellas.
Fuel: Cool Power 15/30 mix at first now strait 30%.
YS ST-II barrel on both.

About a month ago I crashed my Freya 80 inverted and the Hatori 985 hard mounted pipe broke the engine case.
I had it Tig welded but we missed a very small crack by the carb housing. The engine ran for a few min then leaned out and got the plug. Changed plugs and it was a no go from then on. Resigned my self to either get a new case ($125) or another engine and keep this one for parts.
Bought a good used engine instead. Put it in and ran it for about 2 min and it quit. Checked lines and stuff and found some very small black residue in fuel filter after draining fuel thru it to empty the tank. Took everything apart and cleaned it all. Still no run!
Now I'm worried!
I took the carb and pump assy apart on YS and thourghly cleaned the whole assy, passages and all. The engine will not run below 1/3 throttle.
Check all components before assembly and all check good. Just to be sure I have did this two more times inbetween runs. Diaphram and all.
Still the same....... 1/3 to 1/2 or no run.
I've looked in the exhaust port and see no signs of scuffing or excessive wear.

Any Ideas???

THANKS

Yep, I tried that while having the motor mounted in my Vise and cranking it with the heli pipe installed. No prop or anything just the whole clutch fan and bell assy as it is in the heli. I know..... not the norm but it works!
All the fuel passages in the carb case seem to blow free of blockage, the needles are nice and smooth (no gouging), and I have fuel spitting out the intake of the carb as I'm cranking. I've tried the low needle set from .5 to out to where the O-ring starts to show in .25 turn increments. Still the same thing.
I haven't messed with it in a few days as real work has interfeared but I'll get back at it tonight.

Thanks David.

Vetrider, If the YS won't run at the book setting and you have good compression and a good plug I would say you still have crap ( technical term) in the fuel system! I have never had any luck trying to blow the fuel pasages out on a YS carb/regulator assembly. I remove the needles and inserts from the carb body along with the barrel and. Then I put the pieces in a strainer ( including the regulator halves)and immerse them in boiling water for about 15 minutes ( or until tender!) . Dry them off and re-assemble the carb...set to factory specs and it 'oughta run! I have blown my carbs out with 125 psi air and after boiling still had goo ( another technical term ) floating in the water! I boil my check valves too if I don't have good pressure in the fuel tank after a flight! Hope this helps. Chris

Hmmmm.....

Remove the drum, needle valve and needle valve thread mount. Now look at the bottom end at the spray bar opening.Blow compressed air through this way as to blow air into the spray bar slot.Probably a piece of that black crapp in it and that is where it got stuck! Good luck!

Excellent Idea fella's. I haven't removed those needle valve thread mounts yet. Will DO!

BTW..... I have great pressure as I'm using the new larger checkvalves from Ricks RC.

YS carb

If you've blown compressed air through the carb and regulator with it assembled, you've probably blown out the diaphragm. There will be a small almost undetectable tear along the edge of it where it fits on the center button, and this will cause the low end to be too rich, but not affect the top end. This is the voice of sad experience here. Take the diaphragm out of the regulator and really take a good look at it. I had a similar experience after blowimg out my ST1. If you haven't blown it out, then I would agree with the others that most likely you have something blocking one of the passages, although a leaking gasket, fuel tank, or fuel line or a trashed cylinder/sleeve assembly might also do this. Hope this helps. Steve.

Hi

I had the same problem where my YS61STII wanted to keep shutting down at idle/initial throttle.

The bottom end was lean.

As soon as I richened it up, everything was fine.

Hope this helps.

regards
Glenn

YS 61 ST2 & 80 ST3

Folks,

In the Futura SE = YS .61 ST2
In the Freya = YS .80 ST3 (with ST2 Throttle Barrel)

I noticed on both of my engines, the throttle barrel needs to be at about 25 - 30% open (from full barrel closed) just to make the engine idle. Does this sound right, or are they in need of some tweaking?

Note: Both engines run perfect otherwise! Gotta Luv YS!!!

Jeff, none of my YS motors idle where they are supposed to, ( the second mark in the carb vs. the pointer on the barrel. They all run great but from time to time I still wonder why the marks are there...of course there might be a drunk, sypillis ridden crackhead engineer in Taiwan laughing his head off thinking about us wondering about the marks on the YS motors Chris
