Sounds like a great plan. Depends on how great a deal you hope to get? Good luck with your shopping.

Congratulations! I haven't started building my 3D yet, but as I understand, it's a fairly quick build (as little as 6-8 hrs, and typically not more then 12 to 15 hrs. Stay in touch as you progress.

Servo's

Carl, DONT get hold of the S9206 servo's they 'recommend' for them unless you want heavy re-build costs in case of 'the inevitable'

I got three of them and in the first crash all three sets of servo gears were bust (plastic 'sacrificial') only the problem was I couldn't get hold of JUST the plastic ones, I had to buy the whole lot at £25 EACH. They are good servo's but I have a colleague who has done the same thing just on a 'bouncy' landing when his engine cut while setting up!

I'm pretty upset at lashing out over £200 on the setup (3 CCPM) to face a bill of £75+ every time I do something wrong when I could have bought the JR 'digitals' which have just ONE plastic 'sacrificial gear' and which is replacable at less than £2 each time.

Off course, you need some decent 'centering' servos which can handle the 'torque' of the CCPM system adequately and I'm not to familiar with the 'other' options out there, but if I was to do it again, I'd look into the repair costs before I laid the money on the table.

Cheers
Richard.

I use the S9151 Servos instead of the S9206. They have the same specs but are digital (I usually get 4-6 flights with a 1500mAh battery, so no problems with the higher current requirements of digital servos).

Advantage of the S9151: All plastic gear, therefore $5 - $10 for gear replacement.
I was lucky when I had 2 servo gears break, I only had to use 1 replacement gear as a different gear in each servo had broke.

these servos are about the same cost but as you say they need only cheaper gearsets

with the room for the battary only being small will there not be a problem with the high current drain as they are digital????

your comments please!!

looks like the DS-8411 JR servo might fit the bill too

Hi Carl,

I even use a smaller battery than recommended (1500 mAh instead of 1700mAh - since the 1500 came with my Futaba TX) but I usually get 6 flights with it, so I'd certainly say there's no problem with the higher current of digital servos.

The JR's should also work fine. Just be sure to use the "special balls" for the front servo as mounting the regular balls won't work since JR's servo horn is close to the chassis than futabas.

Have fun!
