Just my opinion, but I would not fly the Hawk without the boom braces. You might get away with it for a few flights, but it will eventually cost you.

Ha well spotted guys..........no I don't intend to flt without the braces. I took the picture whilst the rebuild was still in rogress. You might be able to see that a tail rotor blade is missing as well..I was waiting fro the new bearings to turn up.

With carbon blades on plastic grips and the upgraded feathering spindle what would be a safe max headspeed for stock gearing and an OS 37?

GAHH!!! Someone call 911!! My wallet is bleading heli parts!!

With the stock plastic head block, probably up to 1900-1950. I'm running 2050 with a metal head hub and it's awesome.

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Tail boom fix / mod

I broke my tail mount in a hard landing found the plastic piece too week so i drilled 2 holes in the stabalizer fin and bolted the rods to the fin.
it held up well in my first crash !

Tail stability

One of the Century folks from Fremont was kind enough to help me some time ago with a tail rotor stability problem. My Hawk Pro would fly OK for awhile and then the tail would start acting up and the heli would not want to turn to the right. What the Century Rep found was that I had somehow left the spacers out of the tail blade and tail blade grip assemblies. My heli flew very well for some time but has now developed another tail rotor problem. It will fly fine for awhile and then will suddenly go into a severe tail wag. It will tail wag for a bit and then stablize again and then repeat the process. I have looked the heli over and can't seem to find any mechanical issues as yet but I can't be absolutly sure. I have not flown the heli for a while because I am afraid it is on the edge of crashing. Has anyone else experienced such a problem? Does anyone have any suggestions on just how to check and solve this issue?

Thanks in advance for you input.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

Tail Stability

Mine had a tail wag caused by the engine rpm not being smooth
turned out I had a fuel mixture problem.was running too rich

I love my Hawk Pro and wouldn't even trade it for a TREX 600N

I get a +/- 14 deg pitch after a couple of personal mods
8 degrees cyclic
OS37 running on 15% nitro with 13 minute run times
Funkey 550's with Swift 550 paddles
Spektrum radio and servos
Except for pitch (Blue Bird 621MG) and throttle (Futuba S3003)
Futaba 401 gyro
Anti-rotation bracket and aluminum fan with oneway bearing
Uni-flow fuel system never had a problem since although it was a little hard to dial in at first, having a higher fuel pressure.

It's suppose to do that !

Funkey 550's with Swift 550 paddles

I tried a set of swift 550 padles one one of my Hawk pros. Without the stikers covering the holes, cyclic response did not seem great. They flew nice with stickers covering them but could not keep the stickers on from the oil and fuel. I since installed a set of Century hot dog paddles and I like the way it flies except for a pitch up in fast forward flight.

I want to take a poll:

everybody experiencing pitching up in FFF please drop a reply stating your paddle type, and weight if possible... and be sure to tell me how your C.G. is set up (nose heavy, tail heavy, or neutral).
Also, please state what type of horisontal tail fin you have, and if it's solid or cut out.

I have been doing some experimenting on the pitch up problem, and it seem the more nose heavy my C.G. is, the worse the pitch up is due to the aft trim required to offset the added nose weight..

Next day I can get to the airport, I am going to do some tests in FFF and autos with 1/2 ounce weight in the nose of the canopy, no weight in the nose(neutral C.G.), and even a test with a tiny weight on the tail.

Hawk Pro number 1, All stock, stock woodies, CG 1/4" in front of main shaft. No pitch up. Hawk Pro #2 Stock woodies, Century hotdog 3D paddles, Long ball links on swash plate to bell mixing arms, no flybar weights, CG is approx 1/4 in front of mainshaft, Stock horizontal fin, solid. I did not notice this pitchup running the stock paddles.

I also have another complete head that I bought used. I rebuilt it with 6mm feathering spindle, red dampers, and thrust bearings. All I need is a flybar to finish it. I am curious to see how it will fly with these upgrades.

Yea but the tuning problem has nothing to do with the helicopter or the hawk pro but that engine. But I finally think I got it tuned almost perfect . But now weather here is saying 15-25mph winds no that I finally got engine tuned .

I love my hawk pro I have noticed since I got the OS37 instead of 32 I have to hold tail during spin up because of torgue. Also if I pull throttle down and then punch in like I did today it wags and almost turns around back at me lol the engine must have alot of power I like it lol.

Having a Raven, A hawk I converted to a Raven 30 and a Hawk Pro, I've found that if you don't have enough weight up front you will get pitching up. As soon as I put a larger, heavier battery up front that went away. Tracks MUCH better now. I found that if you just follow the stock setup you won't have enough weight up front, go to a sub-c receiver pack. You can get them up to 1600 to 1800MAh without much trouble. This will give you much longer run times AND the weight you need.

Got Money? Send it to me, I'm a Heli Addict.

Even with a powerful motor like the OS37 or the Toki 40, if you have your gyro set-up properly your tail should hold solid no matter what you do.

What radio, gyro and tail servo are you using?

I am using s 401 gyro setup by hobby shop owner. I am also using a old JR XF622 for radio. But not sure on reciever but my heli was setup on the OS32 so that might be why.

Then I suggest that you take out your instructions of for the 401 and re-set it, or have the fellow who set-it up initially to do so again for you.
