I built my T-Rex from the start for eCCPM and set out with the following goals:

1) Use Hitec HS-56 servos
2) Have all of the servo links the same length and as near vertical as possible
3) Use link balls everywhere with good clearance
4) Minimal simple cuts to the frame
5) Be able to use the stock canopy without modification

Most postings I have found with searches used the smaller 50s and blue birds servos. The HS-56s are tricky to mount due to their size and the fact that the horizontal mounting tabs are set back quite a bit.

It is just about RTF and I have the Hacker B20-15L and a Neumotor 1105-3Y to try.
(I will be selling off the one I don't pick after just a few flights if anyone is interested PM me.)

If I ever get time to do a V2 Ill go to 3 direct links like that... will wait to see what the align alloy 120 swash is like and see if I can use that - though they may do well with the whole CCPM heli and save us all the trouble of having to do it ourselves.

Did you need the spacers on the rear servo? Looks like you could simply move the ball to the inside and eliminate the spacers?

Either way, looks like a real nice setup and I'm sure it will work great!

Yes I did. I really tried several ways to mount that rear servo but the mounting tabs on those HS-56s are peculiar and if flush the rear link was not vertical. If I put the ball on the inside of the servo horn it had a tendency to bind when passing the servo body midway. What I ended up with is what you see. The spacers are extremely light and put the servo in just the right place.
I would love to see other variations of mounting these little devils.

Looks like Albig's kit - I have it on my RappE - very nice kit and very helpful guy too.
I see what you mean about the rear servo mount BUT did you notice that he did not use a ball link there, only a Z link? I wanted ball links everywhere (listed goal #3) and I just could not get good clearance with a link ball mounted that way.
Just as I was ready to test this thing yesteday I had to take an ambualnce to the hospital with a bummed knee.

Hope to try it out next weekend.

That's correct. It's Al's kit. Gary at www.tppacks.com is selling them. Got one on order. I'll have to look at it a bit closer, but I think if one was to mount the rear servo with the mounting tabs on the inside of the frame there would be room for a ball link. His servo is also flipped so there shouldn't be the chance of the ball rubbing on the case. The drawback would be servicing the servo as you would probably have to seperate the frames to remove it.

I admire anyone that comes up with a nice eCCPM modification such as yourself. Pure Ingenuity!

Man, I was just about to post the same thing about putting the servo's mounting fins on the inside.

But then I think the spacer solution is still better as it is a lot easier to get the servo out if needed. I like this CCPM mod better than Al's as it is more compact. Nice work!

OK I see how with the servo flipped you avoid not hitting the case with the ball on the inside of the horn which is a good move. But a comlication still results; even with the servo on the inside of the frame, it looks like adding a ball to that horn would throw you off vertical and therefore shims would again be required. So if you have to shim the servo it cerainly makes sense to put the screws outside of the frame as Lancelhoff and dnam noted.

I would never dream of competing with Al, he's been to helpful to me in the past, but do you think there is a market for this mod? Maybe Al would like to offer it.

Canopy finished

I just finished the canopy for my TRex and it met my final goal of mounting the stock canopy over the CCPM mods.
A very small amount of trimming along the top near the servo links was all that was required.

I lenthened the canopy mounting posts to flare the rear just a bit to provide additional clearance to the servo horns. I just cut the arms off of left over servo horns and used the hub under the posts to extend them. You can see them as the white spacers in this photo;

helicopterMark His frames have been Dyed. Do a search here on runryder and you will find more info. Search for (dyeing t-rex). It is a lot more easy than you would think to do, and looks really good when done.

Hi Mark. Yep, T-Bell is correct, those parts were dyed.
I used liquid RIT dye and just put a goodly amount into water with salt added. Quantities don't seem very critical and several different dye lots all matched. Bring to a boil and dip the parts. Some people leave parts in overnight but I found a good deep dye in just a minute or so. Much easier than you would think. Just remember that the stuff will dye whatever it touches, i.e. the pot, the counter, the dipper and your skin.
The canopy was painted though, Fusion over Acrylic.
