Yes, you do need to buy CX00-100-680 if you want to use carbon tail boom.

If you use the carbon boom it needs the different mounts. The black boom is avaliable in metel. The part #... RussR already posted. READ UP the line a little. "0404651 - black boom (totally personal taste!)"

capt.dan,
Customer Service is via e-mail. If you have a specific need to talk to someone via phone send an e-mail to customer service explaining what you need and they will provide you with the direct phone number of the person you need to talk to.

vetrider is correct. The Hirobo carbon boom has a larger diameter than the std metal boom so it needs a different boomclamp kit. As garry mentioned the part number is: CX00-100-680

This is not to be confused with the black metal boom in the pictures I posted which is the same as the silver one but black anodized and the boomclamps are the ones in the kit.

Russ,
Actually the plastic canopy standoffs work just fine. I should make that clear in the manual. Thanks for pointing that out.

Plastic Stand Offs -

Hey Augusto, I didn't mean to imply that they wouldn't, but with all the carbon and CNC bits on this machine, it would be like wearing sneakers with a tuxedo! Just my opinion!

I am confused on which Freya Kit I need to go with the Avant.

Do I just need the Freya 60-70 kit ?
Or do I need to buy the Freya 60-70 kit and the upgrade kit to the 90?

Seems I remember MRC running a special on the upgrade kit for the Freya.

I have made a note on the the other extra parts needed.

Also is the metal yoke a worthwhile upgrade or just blue bling for the Avant?

Hopefully I'll have my Avant in a month or so.

Freya kit:

The base kit (60/70) will still need to be supplemented with the proper ratio for the 90 size engines, so that means at minimum some gears. The plastic yoke will work fine, as well as the other parts in the kit. The 'upgrade' 90 parts like the hardened shaft, etc will not be used in the Avant kit because CX uses their own shortened/hollow shaft. Mainly the head, gears, tail & boom, landing gear are used to build upon the Avant kit. There are also many small links, balls, screws, etc.

Hope that helps.

Which Freya.

Get the least expensive one and then the add on parts.

You will need:

Fan Shroud
Fan Shroud bracket
17T Delrin Tail Gear.
95T or 93T Delrin main gear depending on engine.
11T pinion if YS 91 is used.

Optional:

Metal Yoke
Metal Radius Block set
Metal Auto hub

If you get the Metal Yoke, you will need to get the CX V2 Dampners as well.

If you get a standard Freya to convert over to the Avant, you might also want to consider the metal auto hub instead of the plastic version unless Augusto is using his own part in the kit. The keyed aluminum fan hub is also nice to have, but certainly is not necessary.

Augusto,

Is the carbon boom really suited to 3D? It's just that I find it quite delicate. I don't know any 3D pilot who uses the carbon boom - or is this just due to cost? Of course implying that it is a bit bigger would mean that it can not fit into the upper plastic freya frame since that's designed for the aluminium boom.

Since I always had metal ones I asked Jeff Green what experience they have had witht the plastic auto hub and he told me that with the grease around it holds just as good as the metal one. I will switch to the plastic one on one of my avants as well as the plastic yoke just to make it even lighter.

The 17t delrin gear is not necesary anymore. We updated the part to accept the regular plastic one.

synodontis,
I think the reason they don't use it is because it seems it wouldn't fit well into the plastic freya. I have one with it and Ray is flying one in his Avant an on his EX too.

Augusto, don't you think that it isn't that necessary to make it that lighter? It's better to throw away a header or something like this rather than save a very few grams on the plastic yoke!

Augusto, can you possibly compare the weight of the Avant RTF to the X-spec RTF, both with identical electronics ? now that would be interesting to know the difference... !

Garry,

Out of curiousity I'm building one of mine to be the as light as I can make it so every gram counts. I also kind of like the black look of the plastic yoke.

Light weight

I will be using a CF boom and lipo battery. Replacing the metal boom and 3000 mah NIMH battery I saved 7 oz. Balance was perfect as well.

Let us know what you come up with. What do you think you could make lighter without sacrificing strength? Taking the cover off the rx, 601 sensor(I don't know if you would want to do that), the 601 controler.

Augusto,
Since you are building a hardcore 3D machine the thing like this really make sense! Just don't have too much fun with cutting aluminum and changing something to plastic
I believe you are still changing something and your Avant isn't got a final look, but when you'll finally do it, you simply have to say what is the weight of your finall version kit!

Agusto,

Does your kit use the stock main shaft from the Freya?

Thanks,
