Canopy -

I doubt it. It's thinner than a Fury canopy, but not shure.

Russ

Here's compared with my Fury's canopy:

Actually it's about 3/4 of an inch thinner. It's the thinnest and lightest 90-size canopy and heli currently in the market.
I wonder if you can do "knife edge flying" with it hehehe

It also has a lower profile and a smaller frontal drag area.

Avant - Yellow/Orange Painted Canopy

Ray, your pictures are not showing up here. I just have X's.
Is anybody else having the same trouble.

I wanted to know if you bought that canopy already painted from Carbon Xtreme and if it is Carbon Fiber? I love the Yellow and Orange canopy!

Just a general question.... does the avant fit under the hirobo category now that there is a kit out by cx?

TJK,

When I weighted the prototype it was 9.7 pounds. The release version is lighter because there are several parts that were lightened. For instance the prototype had solid landing gear mounts and the release version has pocketed ones. There is also the motormount side that were lightened as well. There are many other parts that were lightened in weight. There is also the fact that when I weighted it it was with the plastic canopy that is quite heavier. There is now the lighter fiberglass canopy and the even lighter carbon canopy. I will try to get it weighted and post the weight here.

DjLock,

The new kit still uses the plastic Freya as a base for building it so it's still a conversion kit for the Hirobo Freya.

Augusto,
Will you add some spare holes in Avant frame for muffler mounting, the way you did with Freya's frame?

Spare Holes!

Garry - they are there! I just completed the left frame build and it was mentioned in the instructions. Actually, there are provisions for using a header tank too because he added some holes for that as well!

It builds relatively quick, nice fit on everything so far. Just completed the swashplate surgery and installed the assembly onto the Avant CCPM swash - nice!

Russ,

You commented on the "fit". What about the "finish"?

The finish on everything is top rate. For instance, on the CNC pieces that go into the frames, swashplate, engine mount cradle/stiffner all have that semi polished look and feel. No rough edges at all. I have not had to relieve anything, modify any openings, or cut to fit a darn thing.

Okay - back to my dinner

Augusto

when you give Avant's weight dry , but with blades, could you list the
electronics and other components you are using in the Avant:

- TJ pro, header or no header tank, type of rx battery used , etc.

Would be helpful so we can gauge how our Avants will be at.

My xspec is at 11 lbs 4 ounces dry. This is with the 4400 mah Duralite and TJ, OS and MP2. On my buddy x-spec, he's at 10 lbs and 13 ounces with a lighter rx pack and Ys 91 and SB16FH.
I hope to bring mine down to 10 lbs even.

Latest word from carbonxtreme is 2 weeks for mine ! It will be worth it !

I wish he would say how wide the Canopy is..but that could be a strategic move.

Build Update - Long

It's great when a plan comes together:

10AM - knock at my door - its FEDEX with the replacement part bag from my kit. After beginning a couple of nights ago, I PM'd Augusto to let him know I had a duplicate bag (#1) it happens.....He sent out the correct part the next day! Great support I'd say.

10:30AM - knock on the door - USPS with my parts from XXXX. I ordered a TJPro, new black tail boom ( I think it adds a nice look to the Avant) and a set of new landing gear to start fresh. Also had the missing shroud bracket that I didn't have.

Off to the table, where I promptly step back through the tail gear installation process. Note - I have a stock Freya gear, not the XSpec that Augusto talked about. Well, not letting that deter me, after all what self respecting fanatic would let something as trivial as a pin hole location stop them - so with some hady work on the gear set with a dremel and some sanding disks, it lined up perfectly. No problem!

The next few steps involved the CNC boom supports, the frame doubler, engine mounting and landing gear mounts. All went well without a hitch. It is notable that because the engine mounts higher in the frame than most heli's, you do have to leave the clutch bearing block loose, so that you can slide in the engine/clutch assembly at an angle, then tighten the bearing block. It's all detailed in the directions with great photos. Did I mention that the gyro mount is CNC too ?

Overall very pleased with the kit and directions. I even took time out to rebuild the stock blade grips with all new bearings so that everything is tight.

Next steps are servo installation, etc. Stay tuned!

PS - sorry about the lack of pictures...
