I have been running the 2 cell lipo on my Avant for a couple weeks. I locked out when one regulator failed. I am using a borrowed Duralite regulator that is working fine. I am waiting for my regulator switch to come in from Dino. The 3300 nimh batery was good for 2 flights in the cold. 9451 servos. The 2100 ma lipo is good for about 7 flights. The down side is removing it from the heli to charge.....we don't want a meltdown to happen while it is on the Avant....do we?

Drilling out the tail tube is HIGHLY recommended. If it is too tight, it will squeeze all of the glue out from between the rod and the tube.

Has anyone tried Hirobo SSR VII or VI head on the Avant? Or X-Cell Tempest FAI/3D?

How good will the Avant, with suitable head installed, be for FAI?

The avant was not designed for F3C, why not stick with models who were designed for it ?

I don't fly FAI so I can't help you on that but there is a customer in Japan that's using an Avant with a Hirobo FAI head. I'm not sure which head he's using but according to him the Avant small side area makes it less likely to get disturbed by wind gusts during hovering and the small front profile helps with the penetration on the large fast maneuvers.

Even Scale Pilots need a little spice once and awhile! I just order mine last night! I understand scale manuevers for the Avant include piro flips and such ... guess I have to start practicing my new scale manuevers!

I fly FAI, and I can say that the Avant very well fits the citeria for an excellent FAI model with the correct head on it (SSR 5,6,7). Besides what Augusot noted, the control system which minimizes mechnical interactions is critical for an FAI. It is important not to think in a vacuum that 3D is the only flying style of interest and that this model will only be desired for that purpose. It's the customer's choice to use his/her model as they'd like. The question was appropriate and reasonable.
