Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > YS 61 ST 2 on low nitro, how does it preform?

I'm considering a YS 61 ST2 as an option to run in my Freya. Would anyone know how it runs on 15% or 12.5% cool power?

I've heard that the YS .61 ST II runs maybe just ok with low nitro. Why don't you look into Webras?

Ken, have you or anyone you fly with tried 5% fuel in your OS 91? People in the States are shimming the head to lower the compression or running 15% to make the engine run smooth...I know most of the rest of the world doesn't have access to cheap high nitro fuels and they still seem to make gobs of power with the OS engines! YS engines ( I fly the 61 and the .80 ) NEED the high nitro to get power...anything less than 15% in the 61STII and you have a Rubber powered bird! Where theres a will theres an inheritence...Oooppps...I mean way!! Chris

Ys engine and nitro

If your going to run a ys then you need to run 30% in it to get the most out of it. Thats the recomended fuel to run in that motor.

Ditto on the 30%,The viscosity of the oil in 30% is important for smooth operation of the pumped fuel system that the YS has.The oil viscosity in 30% is different than 25%.15% etc.I never bothered to try anything else lower in nitro in a ys61st2

I've been running 15% wildcat in my Ys. It runs great. Good power and very smooth, typical of Ys.

Ditto,
Although I am now running 30% in my ST 2, I ran 15% Wildcat for nearly 43 gallons in it with very good performance.

I ran 15% in my YS for a little while was burning up plugs about every gallon and a half. Switched to 30% no problems now.

I've had great success running a 15%/30% Coolpower mix (1:1) in my YS .61 and YS .80. The YS's didn't like the 15% alone but mixing it with half 30% works great and it's cheaper then straight 30%.

I wish nitro where the big issue here. It's all about flight duration and consumption. Fuel here in Germany is just plain expencive from 5% to 30% it just isn't cheap. I want to keep flying my freya rather then hang it up. So If I can get better duration flights off of a YS 61 running 15% CP I'll do it. It's that or I might try the OS70.

I don't want to do radical changes to my machines to mack them fly on zero nitro because in 1 and 1/2 years I will be returning to the USA and I can afford 30% nitro at $20 a gallon. That's CHEAP compared to the $38 a gallon for 30% that I'm faced with now. I don't know how europeans put up with some of the prices they pay. Man, I'd revolt.

I have two SE99's with YS 61 STII's that I run on Wildcat 15%. Both run great, are very smooth.

Ken,

prices in Switzerland are even higher, at least we have cyberheli too .

I order must stuff from Germany because it's still cheaper there!

Well, at least robbe helis cost less in Germany than in the States

Your Freya should work well on 10-15%, you don't need 30% - if you want an overpowered (nice word) ship you still have the Sceadu!

I still think thats cheaper than buying a gasser, but I have no idea how much you fly

Regards,

Andi
