e-Align T-REX 450-500-600 > 9T pinion Stripping Main Gear!!

I think I've had it with this T-Rex!!!. Got it over the christmas holidays and I still have not gotten it setup correct. I got lots of good advice from various guys on here. From gyro setup to proper motor installation to now this. This is a Great little bird but for someone like me who is new to electrics its a real Biiiiiiaaatch!!. My setup is as follows:

Chillipepper 4200kv with 9T pinion
H56's all around
2 TP2100 packs
MS-44 gyro
Phoenix 25 esc
Berg 5 but need Berg 6 instead receiver

I had a minor mishap in that my radio antenna was a bit too close to the rotors. Well it cut the antenna and ever since then the 9T started stripping the Main Gear. I've removed the Gear and the motor and reinstalled them both. The same problem is occuring. I'm about to just put this whole setup in the Trash Most likely I'll simply purchase a new set since its just $10.00. However who's to say that this problem won't happen again. I'm starting to think that may the 9Tpinion teeth are too small and so the slightist gap which occurs beteen the teeth of the Main Gear and the pinion, stripping will occur. Motor installtion is also very difficult due to very tight spaces to work with. At this point frustration have taken over and I think I'll just put this baby down for a while, or maybe untill I find someone close to where I live to get it back on the right patch. Or I might just outright sell or trade the whole package. Micro's are a real pain when you're used to mainly nitros.

Just be patient with it. They are more delicate that a nitro bird and take a little more time. I use the CP 3600 and the 9T pinion. you might want to try the 3600 instead of the 4200. the 4200 runs faster but has less torque than the 3600. Just my opinion. I'm new to Micros so keep that in mind.

If you play games give Gamefly a try

Two things. First, make sure that your pinion is a .5 mod pinion. Second, make sure you don't mesh the pinion with the gear to tight. Slide a piece of paper between the two, then tighten down your motor.

You can use Align's pinion set. I am not sure about the CP's shaft size but if I remember correctky it was 2.3mm, right? If so use these, they are 2.3mm bore. I think for example Grandrc has got them.

I think the better way to set pinion/maingear backlash is to set the pinion up against the main gear somewhat snug at the tightest point. You may have to spin the main gear around a few times to find it. This way as it wears in, the tight spot will wear in nicely and the loose spots will be just right.
Also, you can look straight down at the pinion and main gear through the collective arm. If you set it up correctly, it will be fine. I have run an 8T before on my Chili and the main gear is ok....

Its hard to set the pinion to main mesh correctly. It tends to want to move as soon as you tighten the motor screws. 9T does work ok if you get the correct gap.

Vinrx7 your're right. The 9T works fine initially, however after your first mishap or any impact to the rotors while spinning could cause a bit of a misalignment between the pinion and the gear. If this happens you have to pay close attention. Or look for the white dust . Maybe in my case the motor was not secured tight enough so it might have moved a bit. I'm about to order some more Main Gears however I'm not sure I'll be going back to the 9T. Since my motor is 4200kv I think I might try the 11T. Unless someone knows better and informs me its a mistake.
A metal pinion rubbing against a plastic gear will certainly take its toll.

I've had no issues with my 9 what so ever, and it's taken a few crazy beatings, ie hitting a brick wall at near full forward flight speed!

Amazingly enough, this sweet lil thing only busted a few small parts when that happened!
