Has anyone used these batteries? Whats the difference between li-ion and lipoly's? Align has li-ion 1900mah 11.1v batteries for like 25 bucks. It seems so cheap there must be some big disadvantage to li-ions compared to lipoly's. What is it?

Something odd here...

Li-ion technology (as far as I know) does not support the kind of discharge rates that LiPoly cells do - those of us using old Li-ion cell phone batteries for eflight were warned not to exceed 1 - 2 C. Also Li-ion has a different chemistry that is potentially more dangerous than Li-poly if abused. (Li-polys will just puff up - if you're lucky, where Li-ions would explode; Li-polys can do this too if really abused).

The other difference is that a Li-ion cell has a voltage of 3.6 volts - Li-poly is 3.7. Therefore, 11.1 volts for a Li-ion battery sounds wrong - I wonder if they are really Li-poly? The reason they are cheap may be that they are older Li-poly technology that doesn't support particularly high discharge rates (maybe 5 - 8C max), so these cells would be pushed hard in a T-Rex. Still, for $25, maybe its worth a try. Anyone else tried these?

Regards,

Iain

yeah the align li-ions just arnt up to the job in a T-Rex, would be fine for a slow flyer plane that will fly for 30 minutes+, but in a heli that will dump the battery in 10 - 15 minutes they are really going to struggle and I would imagine have a very short life.

They are only about 6C discharge max, where as the Align 1500Li-Po's are 12C, yet they still are marginal on current rating in the T-Rex (ours get real hot).

I have used those, on the first seconds (when battery is cold) the hely goes up and suddenly down but on next fly they work, i have tested hovering in my t-rex, i don't know what can happens if you use in a more hard work, batterys after 7 or 8 minuts are warm and empty, BTW i have 2 of them.
Anyway are really cheap.

Ok, but if you check their website.. it does say 11.1v. They have a 2400mah li-ion battery for $23.90. Its ratings are posted as 15a continuous, 20a burst @190g.

they also claim 18A cont for the 1500 Li-po, but 8 is as hard as I would be willing to push them given the temp we are getting.
