e-Hirobo SRB Quark - Lepton - XRB Coaxial > Newb w/ XRB SR, Futaba pmix?/ Cyclic issue

OK, Due to reviews on this and other sites I've purchased a XRB SR from ebay (first RC aircraft of any sort), after some tweaking and Trimming I had it hovering in the den the first night. I soon experienced the 'cyclic input' issues, much to my dismay. I decided to try flying with a futaba 7chp and programing a mix to compensate. I got the correct gws crystal and turned everything on, seems to tx/rx fine.

I ran into issues with the mixing... probably my own doing but I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
I have channel 2 slaved to channel 1 (2-1) and a mix of about 30%. Tried on switch 'a' and set on all the time, I can't ever get it to have any effect on the helicopter. I could be programing this thing wrong, I've never messed with a programable TX before, or even anything more than a 3ch car TX so theres a good chance it's something obvious I just don't know about.

Regardless, this is a great little toy, I'm having a great time practicing and presumably it will help if I transition to larger helos.

Thanks for the great site, all the terrific info and in advance for any input!

mixing

i was under the impression that if you use a different tx than came with the copter, then you sould turn off all mixing. just strait controlls.

First, turn off all your mixing and note the directions the servos are going when you hold in the required trim for straight forward flight. Turn your configured mixer back on. Turn the percentage up really high for the time being. Input a pure ele command and see if the roll servo is moving in the same direction as you were holding manually. Once confirmed, drop the percentage back to 5% and increase 2-5% increments until you achieve straight flight at a modest speed.

I think it had all mixing off, it's a brand new radio. I'll verify. With it configured as it came out of the box it acted exactly as the factory controller.

I've turned the mixing up to 50%, still without any noticable change in servo mixing. As it is fore/aft cyclic input effects only one servo, and left/right cyclic affects the other servo only. Yaw and power inputs are also unchanged. I was wondering if maybe I had the channels mixed up or something... ?

I'll try messing with the mixing some more, post any more advice!

thanks

Depending on your radio brand, one of the mixing screens ought to show an "on" to confirm the mix is armed. If the servos still move independently, the mixer is off.

Confirm; you have mixed ele>ail, right?

What radio brand?

It's a Futaba 7chp, and I somehow managed to get the mixing to work, at least I can see the opposite servo being moved when I input a movement for only one servo. I've set up 2 seperate mixing programs, one with ele->ail and one ail->ele... I set it up that way because I was trying to mix the divergence out of the fore-aft as well as the roll channels. I don't know if these complicated each other, but looking at the servos it seemed to work, I just never saw any change in the flying characteristics. I did notice that the swashplate horns that hook up to the servos seem to reach the end of their travel and bind up/prevent further input, seems to be a bit messed up. It doesn't do it with the mixing off.
So, I returned all settings to normal (0 mix) and have been practicing in the factory settings. I flew it in the hangar at work today, with more room to move I only really notice when I return the cyclic to neutral, then the machine kinda does a clockwise swirl.
I've decided to live with it at the moment, I think I have other issues, I'll address them in a new post...

thanks for the help!

My experience, Same as yours.

I've tried the same things with mixes as you. I did get it to fly straight forward and backward. My mix was like -70 -30 0 +30 +70 . (+ and - may be backwards.) I don't remember ele to ail or ail to ele. Then I tried to mix for right to left flight, but could not get it to work. So, it was great forward and back, but because I couldn't mix right and left, the transitition from forward or backward to right to left was worse.
