e-Align T-REX 450-500-600 > Canopy glue for smoked "windshield" - what's best?

Hi all,

I've tried to glue my windshield to my T-Rex canopy with so-called special canopy glue (Pacer Formula 560) and when it just fell off, with thick odorless CA. This too has come adrift. Does anyone have the secret as to what to use for best results? I don't want to have to nail it on

Regards,

Iain

Just use two small screws to screw on the canopy (on at the back, one at the front) - works great!

Thanks guys,

I'd thought about 2 tiny screws - I may give that a try. My guess is that I used the wrong kind of CA - I was afraid that the regular (non-odorless stuff) might damage the plastic

Iain

Someone in a past post suggested using shoe goo. I may try that. I'm getting sick and tired of re-gluing the windshield. Where does one find shoe goo, other than a shoe store, of course?

Cheers,

elco

Goo or Goop comes in several thicknesses and is available
just about everywhere. Most any of the thicknesses is OK for your
purpose. The 'ShoeGoo' is the thickest of them all as I recall.

I use goop for so much. that stuff fixes everything. canadian tire carries it. there is household, plumbers and automotive. in strength and pliability
plumbers is most pliable, automotive is the hardest. auto also comes in black. in micro cars we mount servos with it (way better than servo tape) and I mount many electronics with it.

repairs lexan bodies, I also use it to reinforce stress points like wheel wells.

I ca'd mne and it seems to have discolored the windshield a bit. it is just a temp body until I get the painted one back anyway. but wish I would have gooped it.

You can also use Super RC Z56 sold at your LHS. It dries clear and remains flexable. A 4 oz. bottle is only $3.45. Shoe Goo is more expensive, but, you can glue more things (servo's etc.) with it! I use both.
J & Z Products Inc. makes the RC Z56.

Thanks once again chaps! I knew you'd point me in the right direction Sounds like a tripto the LHS and NAPA Auto is in order this slightly snowy Seattle morning... (Just repeat mantra in the LHS, "glue, nothing else; glue, nothing else...")

Why bother with all the glue or goop on the canopy when 2 small screws will do the job??? I crashed mine quit a few times and the canopy is still on like new...

I used UHU "POR" foam safe contact glue. You apply the glue to both surfaces (thin smear), leave for 5 minutes and stick. Voila . I'm not saying you need to buy POR but I had it anyway from building foam planes so I tried it and it works GREAT

So in the end what I did was...

Decided to leave it as a convertible - thought it could use the extra cooling No seriously, while at Home Depot looking for Shoe Goo I found some stuff that claimed to bond any plastic - its called Plastic Fuse, made by Pacer. It's a CA glue that comes with some kind of primer that you apply to both surfaces. Product sheet can be found here.

Max Headspeed - not sure if I could find UHU here in the US, although I remember it well, being a Brit. Evo Stik too.

Any way if "Plastic Fuse" fails I'll try the 2 screws, or perhaps a roll of duct tape.

Iain

I posted the same question a couple of weeks back. The answers were Goop and superglue.

I had already tried superglue and RC56 to no avail (on some scraps). I then tried the superglu one more time (Goldberg Instant Jet, applied with a micro brush, then hit it with some accelerator. Holds like a bear!

Man, still all these posts about the glues, when the answer is sooooo simple and easy.

Here is a picture of mine using just two little screws.

I taped mine with four pieces of vinyl tape on the inside, Logo 10 style. Makes it easy to take off for painting or whatever, and holds well.

At least if I ever need glues for other applications I'll know what thread to come to.

Thanks everybody! I've got enough info now for my forthcoming book: "All you wanted to know about glueing T-Rex canopies" - 800 pages, available at all good booksellers

Seriously, thanks to all for educating me on the variety of things that seem to work - the things I'd been trying didn't...
