Ever since i started flying helis i have been wondering why you dont ever see full scale helis doing any type of 3d? only thing i can think of is
- either power to weight ratio is different?
- too much risk of dying!!
- too low of head speed
any ideas on this one ?

Well, all of them are true in some aspect..
But, also, their blades wont take it. Look at the "droop" of their blades when they're sitting still.. Doing 3D would snap them.

All of the above plus the full scale heli's couldn't handle the stresses placed on them from such maneuvers.

they don't need to.
we are more than capable of making a full scale that will do -3D-...
as stated above... the pilot would likely just be crushed from the shiite we do with the models.
when was the last time you saw a cub(full sclae) doing loops, rolls, vertical eights, and rolling circles???

It simple, the havier the mechine the stronger the forces acting on it. Even a titenum and carbon fiber structure wont hold under so much stress. May be the smallest helis can do some airobatics but the larger ones forget it. Try roll a CH-53 and you probebly loss the heli.
blade flexDamn look at the blade flex in that video that dave posted. Looks more like a cone than a disk....WILD

You can roll a 53 and a Cobra. It has been done in a AH-Z model and a 53 echo.

I used to have a VHS tape of a CH53 that was taken on a sales tour in Japan. If I remember correctly, it was rolled something like 25 times during that tour. Several split S's too. Quite spectacular.

Dave's vid is correct I have attended airshows here in UK where the army aircorp lynx did fair examples of loops and flips as part of a routine with 4 gazells. Looked real impresive

I have seen a heli do somewhat 3D flying at Air Fete 2000 at RAF Mildenhall, UK. Don't remember what country the bird was from, but he went up about 1200 feet and started doing backflips over and over again..
After seeing the Lynx video, I believe that is identical to the one I saw.
