Well ok its not really the wah wahs, but it sounds like it somewhat. The rotor spins up fine to about 1/3 throttle, then all hell breaks loose and it smokes up and overspeeds, but doesn't take off. I back off the throttle at this point because something obviously seems wrong. I'm suspecting the clutch but since it gets going initially, I'm not sure. A higher throttle should lock it in even tighter. The engine is YS-st2 on CP30. This happened at about 1/4 tank. The tank has pressure, the check valve is ok, the fuel system is closed (no leaks). Any ideas out there?

#1 check you drivetrain for any dragging and hanging... it should turn very smooth..
#2 check you pitch curve.. you might have too much pitch coming in too fast..
#3 measure your clutch to bell clearance and make sure it is not excessive.. might have too much clearance and cannot grab hard enough to keep the blades going with more pitch...

Try those hopefully one of those will be the answer..

I almost guarantee that it's the One way bearing which is probably cracked. Upon a higher load the bearing spreads at the crack and slips. The part number is 2500-048 if you want to look at your instructions to verify which part I'm talking about.

By the way it seems that all of Hirobo's products use this same bearing.

Let me know if this was the problem.

By the way -- you can't check it by just looking at the case or by turning the main gear. You have to pull the snap ring -- pull the bearings out, then push the oneway out to inspect it.

Jon - You da man! Removed the main gear, pulled the bearings, pushed the one way out and there was the crack plain as day. I suspected something like this, but thanks for helping me figure out how to get to it. That assembly comes as single unit from the factory. Well at least I have a second heli to fly while I wait for the part. And maybe I'll send Mark some $ for hosting this great BB! Thanks again Jon.

My pleasure bro.

By the way the part is about 21 bucks to replace.

Peter,

Call Jeff Green and ask him about the metal one. It will prevent it from happening again.

Pete,
The aluminum hub is part # hir008,make sure you install the bearing back correctly by using the stamped info on the end as a reference.
