16/15/4

This is what I am running in mine. 17 tooth for all out 3d giving about 2600 headspeed.
16 tooth for more moderate sport flying.
You will need a good battery 2100 TP or similar due to the current demands. I tried the 1500's with this motor and just did not cut it. but the 2100's are the way to go.

I naver ran the 400l so I couldn't really tell you. Tee 15t will be ok but for ultimate performance you will need the 17t. The Eco 8 pinions work for these motors 3.2 mm .5 mod pitch.

I just got my first Rex flying over the weekend with a Mega 16/15/4, TP2100/s, CC35, 4-HS56HB's, and plastic blades. It flys great but I do not do any aerobatics or 3D yet. It has gone in several times with very little damage. The thing is VERY rugged and very cheep for spare parts. I love it.

I tried the 16/15/4 on 3 cells with 16t pinion and its good for sport flying. Have a 17t on order which I think will be a major improvement.

17 tooth pinion on the 16/15/4 is the setup for 3d! headspeed is near 2600 with the 315mm woodies. Blades are only rated to 2400 so be very careful.

I am using the 15 tooth pinion. Where do I get a 16 tooth pinion? I am just flying around but has plenty of climb for me. Not into 3d and have not done any loops or rolls yet. I am running throttle at 0,85,85,85,85,85 in hi gov mode on CC35. I think my head speed is a little above 2300. I am getting abt 13 min on TP2100 flying around slowly. Still using the plastic blades. I love it.

I got my 16 and 17tooth pinions from fxaeromodels.com
Look under the Eco 8 tuning parts.

Feels OK flys good for a beginner or sport flying but climb out is slow. Rotor disk does not load up much under full stick and battery & motor are in the good temp range. This all points down to needing bigger blades. Will try 16 & 17 pinons but I think going to a higher head speed is counter productive as at the 2400 head speed the cyclic response is crisp with sloppy dampers that came in the kit. I think the big blades are the way to go.

Tried heli with lighter 1680 3s 2p and climb out was the same and the battery temps were not bad either.

When in doubt...................rev it out

I tried a Mega 16/15/4c with TP 4s-1320 pack on 13T pinion. Headspeed was right where I wanted at 2600, but bogs down way too much on climbout. Even then it is much better than the Align 400L. Tried the 400L with same pack and 11T pinion, headspeed was way too low and motor was 200F+ after 5 minutes.
