I'm just "roughing" in the assembly of my new REX which came equipped with the light grey color ball links....I have shown the machine to a couple of heli flyers that dropped by the shop and they tell me that the linkages are too sloppy What can I do to remove the slight amount of slop in the stock links ? I've read something regarding some purple linkage upgrade ? Whats the difference with the purple vs the stock grey ones ? In the videos I watched it did not seem that there was any issues with the stock kit supplied grey links....I'm confused...heli newbie here

There is a big differance between the gray and purple links. The new purple one eliminate alot of slop and dont pop off all the time causing a crash. My kit came with all purple links exept for the a-arms and washout arms witch both have the gray links that pop off all the time.

GRAVITY SUCKS!

Thanks iron_xl, is there a part number for an upgrade kit that replaces all the links with the "purple" links ?

This kinda sucks....thought it was supposed to be the best bird outa the box but I'm going shopping and will be waiting for upgrades to arrive in the mail already Any other "MUST HAVE IT BEFORE I FLY IT" upgrade suggestions so I can get everything in one order ?

Hi,

Many report great success with even the older grey links. Yes they are a bit sloppy but they do work, the heli will still fly great.

Heating the ball links with a lighter (about 3" above flame for about 2-3 seconds while rotating) will shrink them a bit and make them slop-free. Just be careful not to overdo it, you still want them to move freely.

My first older T-Rex 450X is still flying solid on the original grey links (with the ligther mod) and they have no slop...

Newer kits and replacement link parts include the purple ones. If you want the purples, just get the long ball link set (we have them).

Hope that helps..

Thank you for that GREAT tip. I had heard about the lighter trick, I searched and read refferences to it but never found how to do it. It works AWESOME!!! Gotta be carefull not to over do it with the lighter. So if you have no spares linkages take care not to melt anything. I just hit all the loos links I have. I even have the new kit with the purple links. I still had some slop in the paddles. Not anymore, it couldnt be more perfect. I have a CNC metal swash that already helped out some. I just hit all the loose links and now there is 0 slop. I wish it wasnt 8pm cause Im dying to go fly it and see how well it does. Will the links stay like this or will they loosen up again over time? Is there any downside to treating them to heat so that they shrink a little? I cant beleive what a difference it made. Thank you for those instructions.

Changed Ball-links completely

I too got sloppy ball-links with my T-rex, I tried the lighter trick but poor results (still sloppy). I couldn't to order the new improved purple ball-links so i made some from spare ones I had (from a 30 size nitro). 95% of the slop is gone, the pitch and cyclic controls are sharper and i have more confidence to throw the Trex about. Now i just have to change out the z-bends with ball-links. (Photos show only some of the links changed)
