I got my XRB today at the local hobby store. Must be popular because someone was buying one as I walked in and there was someone else checking out with one right after me.

I went there yesterday to see if they had a Piccollo, and man, am I so glad that I did not get one of these. I would never be able to fly it. I did a little research online last night and realized that the XRB is the Cadillac of micro helicopters.

I am actually having a little more trouble with the XRB than I had imagined when I daydream of flying an micro electric helicopter. I need to work through the instruction to trim it. It needs more trim than the transmitter trim sliders can give. It was not perfectly trimmed out of the box like the guy at the store lead me to believe. But it is not bad either.

It is actually pretty tough to fly in my living room with all of the furniture. I found that even hitting a cushion at full speed with take a blade (or two) off. So far, I have gone through two battery charges and a complete set (four) of blades.

I was wondering if the corded XRB is easier to fly? I kind of like the silver version with the complete cockpit. Even though I really recommend this helicopter to anyone, especially a beginner, I think that I might list it on eBay this weekend. I just am not sure that I will have the time or place to fly after my holiday vacation is over.

I have been playing more with the XRB this morning and after a good night's sleep I am finding it easier to control. I wonder if it is my reflexes or the new blades?

I replaced all of the blades (didn't balance them) and it seems to be much more stable this morning. The hardest thing about flying a helicopter is to get rid of my RC glider reflex of letting go of the stick when in trouble.

I think that most of what you are seeing is a result of still being a novice heli pilot. Those with a bit more experience, including myself, can just about thread a needle with this little model, regardless of how tight the room is. I've never seen a model more stable and predictable. I'd give it a little more time and practice. The tethtered version will fly no better, if as well, and it does not use the same quality motors.

You will find that your learning "curve" is not linear. It often happens in a step-wise fashion. You will think that you can never do the next thing and then suddenly, the next morning, it's like old hat.

Also, trying too hard is not ggod. Take some breaks in between flights. Don't do too much in one day.

All of this is great advice. I got my XRB last week and LOVE it! You can thread the needle as it is so stable. I did the rickyblaze blade laminating trick with strapping tape, so I'm on my orignal set of blades. Flying the Corona outside, then steppng inside to fly the XRB is awesome..."it don't get no better than this!"

Can you detail the blade laminating tip? Thanks

The foam blades on the lama have a piece of reinforcing label tape along the leading edge of the blade to give it some strength.
Make the blades too strong and it becomes unstable. Make the blades too soft and the controls become too mushy.
I have been thinking about replacing the label tape with strapping tape to make the blade a little more rigid.
I'm thinking this might let the little heli fly outdoors.

So, I have decided to sell my little XRB. I have not flown it since my previous posts. I really wish that I had the time, but with family, work and school it will just sit for months unused.

I listed it on eBay...use a simple search to look it up. I think it is the only XRB for sale at this time. I will give FREE shipping using UPS 3 Day Select for anyone who mentions this post if you use Buy It Now.

Thanks for the bandwidth.
