HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > Rigid or soft Sceadu?

With regards to crash survivability of the Sceadu, is a rigid frame better or a soft frame better?

I noticed there are parts that can stiffen a Sceadu frame e.g. coss member (#2511-006), 3rd bearing for tail counter (#0402-523 or #0402-287 Gold part double bearing set), and 3rd bearing set for main gear mad of blue anodized aluminium(#0412-172 ).

Any thoughts on this? I know a stiff frame is good for aerobatics, but at this point, I'd be happy with better crash survivability. If a stiff frame is better for crashes, I'll pickup the above and put them in together with the rest of the stuff, otherwise, I'll do the upgrades another time.

Thanks,

RIGID OR SOFT

Hey Photomic,

I have had my Sceadu for while now and have gotten away with a couple of hard landinds that the Sceadu just soaked up.This frame and skid combination is forgiving yet plenty sturdy IMO. There is no doubt that if the frames were any more rigid, there would not be as forgiving.

The bearing blocks your asked about do a few different things. The larger, blue anodized bearing block designed made to support the bottom of the mainshaft. This is because the Sceadu has so much cyclic authority, it is translated thru the mainsahft from the top to the botton where it is not supported.
This bearing block benfits the Sceadu in several ways: (1)holds the mainshaft in place to in sure proper mesh between the main gear and drive gear on engine (2)gives the head a incerased solid feel (3) as well as increasing the frame rigidity in the center.

The other - smaller - molded bearing block - that rides atop the counter gear assembly was designed primarily for the torque tube drive option. But it can be used in belt driven models for added peice of mind as far as frame rigidity goes.

Hope this helps

I'm running the 3d bearing on the main shaft on both my Sceadus. I believe this is an item that should be included with the 50 and or added to the upgrade kit.

I don't see it interfering much with the crash survivability aspect. I have crashed one of my Sceadu's twice and each one the frame set broke. BTW, both where right side frame. Now I have 2 new spare left frames and no right.

I've got both the tail shaft 3rd block on mine as well as the main shaft 3rd bearing block and I can't tell the difference in "feel" but I'm sure it helps a lot in rigidity especially in the lower part of the frame.
As far as crashes go, I think the stock skids have plenty of flex, so a flexing frame is not a good thing. If the skids cannot absorb the force it's too bad anyway, and something is bound to give!
