Got over thirty five flights on mine with no problems as yet. I do, however land every 4-5 minutes for a short cool down period as recommended by Hirobo. 4-5 min cool downs

I have flown mine 2-3 battery charges a day since I got it and not a problem.

As Hirobo are recommending a short cooling off period every 4 or 5 minutes this suggests to me the motors are not up to the job, or at the least they on the very limit.

One of the motors on mine is starting to get weak after approx 20 flights of 10 minute duration.

I was just flying and now looks like I need a new motor for the bottom. I am losing right rotation every so often.

I bought mine used and have had it a couple weeks so I got a lot of flying out of it. Just took the t rex out and had to figure that one out. Sure looking at my nitros on the shelf real hard right now. Yup going to take one out. lhs tomorrow :d

So far so good

Got a bunch of flights on mine and still going strong. I also only fly for about 5 min at a time, let it sit for a few and then fly again. It sounds like the guys who are flying it to the max are having some motor issues. But so far mine is is A OK.

Key to longevity:

Take the 10 min flight duration and split it into (2) five minute flights with a cool down in between. Brushless motors last a long time when you give them a little TLC.

I have 23 flights on my motors, all 11-13 minutes, and no problems so far. I have read about other people having problems so I am waiting for "bad" things to happen, but none yet.
Have anybody found a better motor to use?

Bad out of the box is one thing, but..............................

this hover trimming to get the gyro centered with the RED/GREEN LEDs flickering together is really critical to keep one motor from overworking. My model hovered hands off out of the box just like most do, but the LED glowed a solid red even after the rudder trim was set to neutral on the ground. I needed to go through the effort to tweak on the screws on the head to get the flickering green/red LED's to appear. The model just works better this way, and you can hear the motors working easier as the model sits in hover. My fear is that some folks take the fact that the model hovers in trim out of the box as evidence that nothing can be improved, when in reality is can be a lot better with about 10 minutes of work.

These little motors seem to hang in there pretty well given modest 5 minute flights, adequate cool down, and good model trim.

If the model was bad out of the box, that's a warranty issue that I'm sure Jeff Green would be happy to help resolve. I'd call him before you open things up and risk voiding the warranty.

Had 15 hours on mine since i got it the week b4 xmas, this has been in 5-6min flights , the trick seems to be in seting up & not having to much pitch on the top blades, all the blades are different , some seem to load the motors more than others, you can hear the difference in head speed, 3 batteries & two chargers also helps with getting lots of time in

I let mine sit for a few days then went back and through the setup and flies good. I have seen no signs so far of losing one rotation and flew another battery. I had my mentor here and we took turns flyingit. it gets a little flight then some rest that way.
I did notice the blades bow down if sitting for some time though. the bottom blade nearly hit the exhaust I didn't think they would do that so fast but they work fine, a little out of track but work fine.

Well,

That's about $2.50 per hour purchased in the US. Fairly cheap fun. I guess that motor costs about $150 in the UK, right ?

I have at least 30 flights on mine with no motor problems. The XRB SR motors are Coreless - not Brushless as a previous poster stated.

I have not subscribed to the 'cooldown during flight' theory, as I am only flying about 8-9 mins anyhow to avoid any forced landings. I also do not think a 4.5 amp load spread across these 2 motors is going to do motor damage at any measurably faster rate when flying 8-9 minute heats vs. flying 4-6 minute heats .

I will agree with Dr Ben that the pitch adjustment is important, and should be checked after every blade change. You can really tell by listening when both motors are in tune with each other - there is a big difference in the noise level - and presumably wear rate - when they are not in tune.

I have been flying my Tethered XRB for 2 months with around 100 flights of 10-15 mins each - with absolutely no motor problems. I even bought spare motors just in case, because I knew I would be in athe air a lot - and I have not needed them yet. I expect these coreless motors in the SR are of better quality than the cheap 180's in the tethered model.

I have been very impressed with the XRB SR and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking to get off the sim and experience indoor heli flight.

Happy landings!
