I finally plucked up the courage to try chaos launches a couple of weeks ago. Now I can't stop doing 'em

Here's a short video from today. My fingers were sore with the cold
and it was impossible to feel the sticks, I just preyed my thumbs wouldn't slip off them

EDIT - Now with music

The whole flight...

Right here's the whole flight. Nothing really spectacular as my fingers were utterly FREEZING. I literally couldn't feel the sticks and so was not relaxed. Anyway, here it is if you're interested...

For being "not relaxed", you sure throw it around a lot This alone would be reason enough for me being "not relaxed" . Only been flying for 3 1/2 months though, just managed my first piroflip today.

Well done. 3 1/2 months from raw begginer to piroflipper is quick progress. It took me about 9 months before I started doing consecutive piroflips. Keep it up.

It all depends on sim time...

It took me 3 years to get to piroflips, I can do 4 or 5 in a row before things get pear shaped

Yeah but don't forget, heading hold gyros like the 401/601 and fast digital servos are still a thing of the very recent past. Ok, I'm not using digitals anywhere except the tail but this alone makes a big difference to the situation a few years ago.

EDIT: There was no Reflex either.

John, why does your tail always swing the wrong way on spool up?

Actually, I'm shoving the rudder to the right. I like starting piro-launches with the tail in so when it's spooling up, I give max right rudder until the tail is where I want it.

Have a look at http://www.coloradorotorheads.com/piriflipg.swf

And

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/...how+to+piroflip

This should help point you in the right direction. The flash clip isn't entirely acurate but it got me started doing piroflips so it can't be that bad

Piroflips

Darenh

To put it simply, I start an ACW piro (stick left) then start stirring the cyclic stick in CW circles at the same rate as the piro. Small circles mean it takes more piros to flip, big circles make it flip quick. It really is a "feel" thang. I don't want to sound flippant (piro?) but the only way is by spending lots of time on a good sim. I use Reflex.

Cheers
