Hi Everybody!

Well, we finally had a nice day here in northern KY! So I was finally able to get the Trex out and try my best to break her! So, this is my little flight report!

Everything went great, 2 full flights, I was able to fly inverted and climb nicely, loops were so-so, rolls were smooth and level. As far as flips go, I was able to get 1.5-2 clean flips before I lost too much head speed. From what I saw yesterday the Trex fies exactly like a Sceadu 30.....A little underpowered, but manageable. On the vertical maneuvers I lost quite a bit of altitude, simply from lack of inertia.

So all in all it was a great experience one that I cannot wait to repeat again and again! A word of caution on the auto rotations with the Trex, she comes down FAST! I was not quite ready for this and I hit the ground a little too hard and bent my super soft main spindle.....boom strike.... Anyhow, only $20.00 in parts, and she will be going again, it didn't even tip over. Just bent the spindle and boom strike, blades shattered, crease in boom.

Autos eh? I haven't the nutz to try to auto this thing yet. I've done just about everything else, and with finesse on the collective, you can round out continuous flips. I will wait to try autos when someone comes out with heavier carbon 315mm blades. I think these woodies flex too much to trust a full down auto too. Just asking for a boom strike in anything but a perfect touchdown.

I wish there was a way to stiffen up the head dampening. I may get rid of the o-rings and install a solid piece of Tygon fuel line. I've also toyed with the Idea of using a set of 60 size tail blade grips with thrust bearings for main blade grips. These two things should stiffen up the head quite a bit. It's just a matter of me not flying and fiddling. Right now it's so much fun to fly!

Well, I guess I was asking and I received, because that was exactly what I got, no perfect touchdown here! ..........seems like the spindle gave way first, they seem to be rather soft.

So, you were able to get continous flips??? I guess I need to work on the finesse a bit! I am still a bit of a slammer.

Are you using the Algin BL motor??

BTW, helihobby just started selling the CF 315 mm blades for this thing, I believe they are made by MS.

I have a really good idea to significantly stiffen the main rotor head on this thing, I just need to find someone who can make the parts, it would be a super cheap mod and would help a lot!

Yeah, I'm all stock at this point.

I found that using the limited interia of the heli while flipping helps a bit. Pop the collective a bit initially, then ease off to maintain headspeed.

Make sure your belt drive is loose as a $2 whore, you'll get your headspeed up quicker. Just make sure it doesn't slip. I find the belt tension makes a huge difference in available power. There's a very fine line in too loose, too tight.

I look forward to your idea of stiffening the head.

I believe I have the belt tension set correctly. I used the same rule of thumb as when setting up my Sceadu. Hold the head and try to spin the tail....should just be tight enought to not slip. It seems way too loose but that is correct, (like a $2 whore as you put it ) I have not had any tail problems worth mentioning so I must be close!

know anyone who can machine nylon?? That is what I need to find to create the head mod......I can supply autocad drawings. I believe it will solve a lot of these problems!
