Got it from HeliHobby and just checking if anybody else is using one. This comes with the "Explosive" combo package from Helihobby.

I'm using it. So far so good.

Although when I got mine they sent me the 2.3mm pinion by mistake so I had to wait while the correct one shipped out. I kept wondering why the pinion would come off in flight and it would start to auto.

The E-Flite seems to have good power, but for the price I've been considering giving the Align motor a shot, although the reports are that they get hot. I have a heatsink on the EF and it barely even gets warm.

What battery and what kind of flying are you doing?

TP (Gen2) 3C 2100mAh

my flying is very noob-ish at this point. I hope to advance to mild aerobatics soon, but not too soon.

I must now digress...not happy with the Park 400

Perhaps I just had a bad motor, who knows. My E-Flite Park 400 just died. I'd just touched down after hovering around the garage and noticed a burning smell. By the time I got the motor on the bench it was locked up hard. I even paid 7bux for the heatsink to prevent this sort of thing. Grr...

I've ordered an Align motor as a replacement for now, hope it gets here before x-mas. (...so much for showing off for the family. )

Monday I'm gonna have to call helihobby and inquire about the warranty on the E-Flite, I'm not holding my breath though.

Anyone know who has the Mega 16/15/3 (or 4) in stock?

I have seen two T-rex'z powered by an Eflight motor. They were both doing 3D stuff. It seems to be fine for the T-rex. I dont know how durable they are though? They seem to be more powerfull then the Himax of the same size.

Changed out my Align for an Eflight today

I was at the LHS and was talking to another trex owner. He claimed that he had plenty of power with the EFlight 4200 (Park 400) and convinced me to swap my Align 400S out. I also bought the accompanying 11T pinion.

Installed it, spun it up and it had noticeably more power on the same Align 25A ESC

I had my the mid-throttle cranked up to 95% w/the Align 400S just to keep a fairly powered hover. With the Eflight, I was able to bring it back down to 75%. I did several drop & climbs to get a feel for the power w/the EFlight.. the Align clearly did not have this much power. no matter how I tweaked my curves, EPAs, etc on the Align it wouldn't have been able to climb like it does now.

Unfortunately, these are the only 2 motors I can compare to. I've heard a lot about the Mega (16/15/3?) and almost bought one. I'd be interested to hear someone make a comparison between the EFlight and the Mega.. I heard btw, that the Mega 4 turn motors suck - is that true? why?

~cheers!~

[ADDENDUM]
The axle CAME LOOSE the other day on this thing and was able to move up and down completely - what a POS! & on only it's 3rd flight too!

Nonetheless, I've locktited both ends of the shaft so that it would bind to the bearings on each end of the can (since I was able to move it up/down freely and let is sit for day).

I flew it yesterday.. my job held through the figure8s, high-bank turns, elevation power-ups and all manuev. ok. i'm still x'ing my fingers that the locktite (the one supplied w/kit!) will hold.

when it goes, i won't be buying this motor again!

Boris,

What pinion did you use with the Park 400 motor? If you used a too big pinion then maybe the motor just could not take the load (too many watts). I use an 8t pinion and it works fine. This combo only gives it a calculated headspeed of about 2100, but for sportsflying this is Ok for me. Maybe I will change to 9t when I have a little time. That would give it a HS of a little less than 2400.

Rot8...

Wish I knew how to post pics....but I too got my t-rex from helihobby....seems to be good with the e-flight motor...the guys up at the hobby shopall loved it, even the resident 3-d fanatic...so much so that the shop is now carrying them!...and that's saying alot if ya knew this crowd! he he I also am useing the TP 1320, yeah, it gets a bit warm...but seems to be enough power ..I'm far from a great pilot, just kinda hover around at this point, so maybe if I was doin' some real flying, I mighthave other things to say.

I too have a 2mm 8t pinion, all from Helihobby

My motor was probably just a fluke. I'm sure E-Flite makes decent stuff, an experience like this after only a few days of flying (very light hovering at that) just kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It had plenty of power while it lasted, and with any luck the rest of the good people on this forum will probably never have the issue I do.

Here are a couple of shots of the motor as requested by Rot8:

(This is the one that's dead now, I have an Align on the way to get me back in the air for now)

Align 2800kv motor...

The Align 2800KV (400S) motor will fly your T-Rex but it doesn't have that much power to spare if you are using a TP2100 3-cell Li-Po. I get about 11 minutes of hover with mine. If you use a lighter battery your performance would be better.

I am now trying a Mega 15 (400L, Mega clone from China?), and it does much better in the HP department but its flight time suffers. However I am still waiting for a smaller 8 or 9 tooth pinion gear (now have an 11 on it), which should improve its efficiency.

My next motor may be a Mega 16/15/3 which I heard is supposed to be very strong on this heli.

CrazyBoris;

Thanks for the pics, where did you get that heatsink on your E-Flite?

I think I should put one too!

waiting..

My problem is broken landing skids right now...had a lil' incident with a cabinet in the garage...heli busted the rotors, and skids..fell from about 6 feet onto concrete...and other than the afforementioned damage, it faired pretty well! BUT...I can't find skids anywhere!! Where are you guys getting replacement parts for your machines?

Missing skids also

I too had a mishap today and broke the landing skids!

I was flying at a local field and hit the normal curve which cut off the rotor disk when I brought down the stick. Slow start wouldn't recover fast enough!
I have to remember to keep it in Idle1...oh well.

Where do we find the stock Align skids!!!!!

Yes Helikraft does have a sale.....unfortunately they are not located in the USA! There is a higher shipping charge plus you have to wait up to 2 weeks or longer for the package to arrive.

I bought the heatsink for the E-Flite from helihobby at the same time I ordered the motor. However, I'll soon be using the Align motor until I can find someone that has a Mega 16/15/3 or 4 in stock so I have little use for the blue 20mm heat sink at this point. If you're interested shoot me an email.

As for crash parts, I agree with the others. I too have ordered OEM replacement parts from GrandRC.com, they might be your best bet for the skids.

Good luck!
