I had thought they were all 2mm, but Andrew said some were 2.3mm? Is this true? I just bought a 2mm die to make rods for this bird

Thanks

Unfortunately it is true. All pushrods on the helicopter except the tail pushrod are 2.3mm, stronger than most other helicopters.

Another problem you will have is you cannot shorten the tail pushrod and cut new threads. If you slide your thumb and first finger from the unthreaded to the threaded section on the tail pushrod you will feel that the threads are actually larger in diameter that the wire.

These threads are pressed, not tapped. The end of the wire is heated and two matched molds press the threads, but the starting size of the wire is 1.8mm. It is impossible to threaded with a die.

That said, you can always make your own pushrods with the die you have but use the 2mm ball links CNLR1000. I occasionally make my own pushrod when the length is not a size that is available, I use common 2mm bike spokes.

Ok thanks for the info Andrew. I was wondering why century sells a 2mm die...

In 1997, the Hawk was Century's 3rd line of helicopters that over time has proven to be a great success. Prior to that, the Ninja series and the Intrepid (Century/Bergen) series all used 2mm pushrods.
