This is how I converted my raptor 50 to electric...very simple!

Now that is a nice conversion! I've had one with the electraflight highmount, and looked at the box, and I like this the best out of all of them. I may have to try that, good work!

The problem with putting the li-po's in the old tank space is the motor wires The aero version of the Actro 24-4 has the wires coming directly out of the bottom, and they don't bend, which leaves no space.

I am looking at installing the actro 24-4 heli version of the motor, which has the wires out the side, that would leave room for the lipos to go under neath in the tank/engine bay...watch this space as they say

Been there, done that, long ago... I've been flying these for a while:

Pretty simple conversion and under 8lbs with heavy fiberglass canopies...

I saw some photos maybe yours before (very nice by the way), but looks like you have done quite a bit of conversion. Did you have to drill out the side frames to get the motor to fit higher up?

My experiment was to get a raptor out of the box and modify very little!

I am so impressed with the electic conversion, that i have started on my X-Cell gas!

Thx!

All that really needed to be done was remove a bit of the fan shroud. Everything else was to improve performance.

I had a few goals:
-Use as much unmodified as made sense, which is why I went with the CCPM setup. The weight savings makes a huge difference and is well worth the cost.
-Protect the batteries. I've had a few accidents with both and not a scratch on the cells.

They are light enough so they still have very good 3d performance and doesn't fell like you are flying a tank The only other things I did were to make to small mounts for the receiver and the ESC/SBEC, which is not really necessary....

All the benefits of flying electric with all the benefits of flying a Raptor.

You converting a gasser?

Yes, already started on the gasser, as it was in a vario Airwolf. Should be interesting to see how it goes!

hallo QCM..,
I've tried converting my raptor 50 to electric the same way as you did using acro 24-4 but with different esc (mine kohler actronic 70-32 heli with controller V3), but when I tried it my raptor just went off (power cut off) during hover for about 3 minutes...any advice? Could it be the controller V3? Thanks heaps!

As per my pm, I can only conclude that either there is some resistance in the motor drive chain or maybe the batteries you are using are too much for the ESC.

I am surprised, as when in the hover my pulled around 22 amps, at 5 degrees of pitch and 100% throttle. The controller I use has a 77amp capacity and is well over the top for flight, so the esc and motor don't get that hot after a flight...does yours after 3 minutes?

thanks Albig...
Please tell me, controller v3 governor in my raptor is it good thing or not?

Raptor 50 with 85t main gear
10t pinion
actro 24-4 heli
actronic 70-32 heli
24 cell sanyo nimh 3300mah
actronic controller v3
600mm rotor
pitch curve -3 +5 +9 idle -9 0 +9
it is possible?

so what's the best motor, esc and battery for the e raptor helis?

Albig, is that a frequency limitation of the motor/esc or the lipo's?

Thanks Albig I get just around 16000 rpm out of my current setup, but I assumed that was down to the voltage (29.6 giving approx 16800 revs in theory). I use a Jeti controller, I believe they make the hacker controllers as well, so hopefully they are not frequency limited. i haven't tried thetwo 18.5 volt packs yet.

Don't think any video exists, I will ask my colleague. There are definitely still photos of it, I will have a look for some.

Well converted the X-Cell gas powered vario airwolf, with interesting results

The model weighed in at 12lbs ready to fly, some 3 lbs lighter than in gasser mode, but still heavy, so I was suspicious as to how it would operate.

Shouldn't have been...wow! the beast fired up with a watts up meter attached and these were the readings...

Drew 877 watts in the hover using 8s3p 6 amp lipos. I then took it for a thrash about, and it drew a maximum of 1383 watts with an average voltage of 30.5, so guess it drew a maximum of around 45 amps ish. It ran for 4.5 minutes before a suspicious cough in the motor encouraged me to land it. At that time, it had drawn 1.95 amps out of the batteries in a total of 4.5 minutes. the residual voltage of both packs was 15.5 volts.

It was heavily thrashed, climb outs, rapid descents to a full stop hover, mainly to see if it could handle the weight, which it seemed to without a problem.

Since inspecting the motor train, I found that the adaptor shaft I had made up for me was not true oh well back to the drawing board.

Although this worked and had plenty of power, it would require at least 8 amp packs to get in excess of 10 minutes. Unfortunately my budget doesn't stretch to buying them at the moment, so it will have to go on hold
