Try this for fun:

You have 8 bowling balls, one balance scale and knowledge that one bowling ball weights more than the other 7, can you determine which ball is heaver using the scale only twice. Please explain your answer.

No I couldn't. As I dont care to play with my balls that much! And if I did I am sure weight would be the last thing on my mind.

Are we talking about the same thing?

Build it, fly it, crash it. Repeat as often as needed.

Three and three:

1. if equal, then remaining "one and one" and you got the heavier ball.
2. If not equal, then take the heavier set of three balls and measure any two; if now equal the other one is the heavier ball, if not equal, the heavier one is the one!

Sharam is the winner! Good on you.

Brian, no, wrong balls.

Janak, we didn't say how much heaver the ball is, it could be fractions of a gram. However, my first answer was "Don't bowling balls have the weight stamped on them, what's wrong with just reading that"!

LOL

Re-read his explination Janek, by going three and three, and excluding two, you can get the answer as he explains by only using the scale twice.

This question was asked on an IQ test for graduating medical students. Most didn't get it right.

Why would medical studentas need to know that?

Remember these in school? If a train leaves New York traveling 60 miles an hour at exactly 5 pm.
And another train leaves.......

They wouldn't CJames.

It's simply part of measuring IQ, ask general questions to determine a persons ability to solve problems. It's not a trick question, or a question that requires applying a mathamatical technique like most of the "Train A leaves...." questions. Instead it measures the persons creative thinking ability.

Only Urologists - the rest really don't specialize in balls!
