Peter once you flown with a Gy-401 you will never go back to anything less capable. It's my favorite HH Gyro.

Why did U get the HH %% servoes, There not the best,, The Align or blubird ares better than they are, I have heard bad things about them. that there is slop in them.. , There are 2 many others out there that are better and even cheaper..

Go for the 240, or the 401,, they are both very good gyros , theres not much in the diff., in the 2 but the 401 has an cord for setting the gain with the transmitter..

What about the Align Gyro? 1/2 price of 401.

It looks to have similar functionality? I know it's new but it has to be tried by someone.

I have a 240 on my HB CP, a CSM 200 light on my HB V2, a couple of 401s on gas helis, a CSM 560 on another gas heli, a Century rate and the Align HH.

I haven't tried the Align gyro yet but it is really light. The casing is not great, but we end up removing the gyro from the case anyway (the 240s and 401s are a drag for this).

I recommend the 240. The 401 seems an overkill and will add to total weight. It is also bulky.

The CSM 200 is only worthwhile thinking about if you have a servo driven tail (as opposed to an ESC and a micro motor). It should be interesting to use it in the T-Rex. It is light and fully featured.

I don't know about weight, but aren't they the same size? A 401 doesn't cost much more then a 240, so why not get a 401. And if you every pull the gyro out to put into a bigger heli, you'll want a 401.

I like to lead by example,
Eagle Freya - 401
Evo .30 - 401
T-Rex 450x - 401
Future Helicopters - 401s

Just my two cents.

The 240 is about 20% cheaper and weighs 2g less. When you het them out of the case and shorten the leads you can save another 10g.

From my experience on micro-helis you don't really need to be tweaking the gain from the radio.

The 240 will hold the tail as good as the 401 on small helicopter.

That's only MO.

I am with you on that. 240 definitely is good and sufficient. I have it on H2 and T-Rex. The only problem i had is with my set up. I mounted the gyro under the main shaft (inside the frame). Now, when i want to change the settings, its a bit of a pain. Thats me anyway.
401 would have been a good idea with my set up as i can program it with the radio. .

my tail always wags on HH mode.

I flew mine briefly yesterday in the living room.

The Align gyro was rock steady. The HH gain is set at 60%.

Maybe the issue is with the servo. I am using an Align super micro (blue transparent case).

The configuration seems to be working great!

Where did you install the gyro? Mine is in the recommended location.

Hi Peter,

Check with Jason WAI (also on Archeli) I bought a Gy401 from him for about $130 AUD. About $100 USD!! *POSTED* Brand spanker still in packet. He is extremly quick with postage. I think to brisbane it was 4 days, got to me in Darwin on the 5th day.

I swear by them - just remember to turn the D/S switch to off unless you are using Digy servos on the Trex!!

So...

this is the verdict on the Align gyro:

It holds... barely. I only tried it in HH mode

I had to drop the gain to 38% in order to stop the tail from wagging in FF. Even then I got the occasional wag.

Also, it seems the gyro has the annoying tick of kicking the tail once in a while. Not often, but still annoying.

I tried flying backwards but at high speed the tail would pirouette back to FF. Probably because of the low gain.

What did I expect for $70? It is not great but it holds on FF, loops, rolls and inverted flight.

Jack

I got several requests on how to lighten up the 401 so here goes the link for the 240. The process applies for the 401 as well.

Cheers.

Did a trim test yesterday in my local hobby shop with a Futaba 240, Align motor, ESC & the cheap stock plastic blades, 2 feet off the floor HANDS OFF for 20 seconds, it drifted appx. 30 inches straight line, no tail wag , I'm very happy with the T-REX & Fut.240.
