Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > Anyone have to dremel the falcon tailboom

Every falcon tailboom I have ever replaced has had to been dremeled at the end to make it a little shorter so the inner shaft will reach the socket that turns it. I have had numerous shafts too that all were the same size so that can't be the problem. Its not really a problem, just wondering why this is so.

I have not seen this problem. Anyone else run into this?

Few Questions:
- Falcon SEVII with torque tube drive?
- After fully seating the t/b the carbon shaft is slipping/not engaging?
- How much length are you trimming off?
My only initial thoughts are, that the spacer that fits onto the tail transmission drive shaft is the wrong length, correct length is 23mm. Fits between the rearmost 5x13 bb and the torque coupler (female).

The only dremmellign I've had to do is regarding alignment; I've had to open up the slotts a bit to have the tail output shaft perpendicular to the main rotor shaft.

Provided that the wire drive engages sufficiently at both ends, I wouldnt worry about 'going all the way'. Indeed, the wire and boom will expand/contract differently with temperature changes, and this mismatch will allow for that to happen properly. Otherwise, the wire could end up under compression and start whipping.

Hello HIH,

Ok, yes I know about this issue, it is minor but the actual problem is in the tail gearbox molds.

Having loosened the bolts that secure the tail gearbox housing, firmly grip the tail gearbox. You will be able to rotate the about 10 degrees, from perfectly vertical to slightly angled. Once corrected, re-tighten the bolts.

The issue is that the two molded bosses on the inside surface of the tail gearbox are slightly less that 180 degrees apart. This will result in being able to rotate the tail gearbox. This issue can be seen on all Century helicopters, but even if it is off slightly, it is virtually impossible to feel the difference in hovering or forward flight.
