I'm going to take a ride out there and check it out too. I'm in Farmington and Northville is just a hop, skip and a jump away. I wasn't able to see the map from the web site but I'll just keep my eyes open when I get to 5 mile and Beck.

Directions.....

Don't know what is up with the map but.......

You will most likely take M14 to Beck Rd.

Take Beck north to 5 mile. Turn left (west) on 5 mile and drive about 1 mile and you'll cross some RR tracks.

Once you cross the tracks start looking right (north), you are pretty much there!!

The field is triangular shaped with 5 mile and the RR tracks as the two main borders.

Have fun!!!

Is that the field near the womans prison in northville near 5mile?
I went out there a year ago and it was nothing but older guys with airplanes
When I asked about heli's they kinda blew me off
so I assumed heli's are not welcomed.
if things have changed I would like make another visit this weekend.
How are the guys out at freedom hill? It's a a drive from my house but I
have heard they are all heli nothing else.
I'm also thinking of seeking the help of a good pilot I crashed my nexus again and I'm kinda getting sick of dumping money it to it.
I have a brand new decked out ergo 60 but I'm afraid to fly because well
I guess I'm not as good as I thought I was after this weekends little blunder
anyway LMK if antbody has any info

Thanks in advance.

That's the one.......but things are different!!

Howard is the President of the club........and Howard is very much into Helis!

Some days when there is alot of plankers, the heli guys fly at the other end of the field.....a little east of the main field towards the train tracks.

They have 5 frequencies that are RESERVED for Helis....21, 27, 29, 39 and 41. If a planker is using these, you can take it over. If another freq. is open, you may use it, but if a planker wants is, he can take it back too.

Have fun!!!

As Darin mentioned, the club is definitely heli friendly, and has been for the 2+ years I have been flying there. There are a few plane guys that don't like us, but it's no big deal. We have about 25 or so heli guys, and of those about 10 are regulars. Those 10 do more flying than just about all the plane guys combined.

We are usually out there all weekend from about 10am to 8PM, and also weeknights.

Ryan (Turbine Tech) was out this weekend and told us that last year some planker told him that in order to be a member you have to attend EVERY club meeting, blah, blah, blah. That planker was wrong. We have about 150 members, and there are usually only 30 people or so at the meetings. I have only been to 2 this year.

All levels are welcome. We have people that can help with recommendations, setup, instruction, and buddy-boxing.

Come on out and do some flying.

Pete

p.s. Thanks for the compliment Darin!

Friendly

The Midwest R/C group were very friendly to me, but I attended the 1st annual Midwestern event earlier this year, so there were no plankers allowed to fly that weekend.

Swim4au, I couldn't help but notice you live in Farmington. The main reason I came up to the heli event was to have a 30 year reunion with a high school/college girl friend of mine. She lives in Farmington Hills. The story between the two of us is very long, but to sum it up, I have the intention of moving to the area as soon as I get my affairs in order down here.

When the time comes, I will want to become a member of the club, and will be looking for places to fly, and people to fly with. Hope it is soon.

Hockeytown....It was a great weekend to be there for the fun fly. The hockey playoffs were going on then, and the Redwings won, which ment they were going to play Carolina (had a home in Carolina at the time). So my girlfriend and myself enjoyed the Cup games. She won, and I'm now in possesion of a Redwings T. Oh brother.

Sounds good!!!!

The guys there are very friendly and helpful.

I had anticipated flying there more this year as the open field I fly in now was slated to be built on..........but that has yet to happen so I haven't had the urgency to find a new place to fly. When it finally does, I will be there quite a bit.

Look us up when you get in town!!
