JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > Ergo 50 Little power??

My ergo os50 just doesn't have the power I thought it would have. I have the long boom and 600mm blades. 5deg at midstick and 10deg high stick. Hovering is fine at 1550rpm, but the climb out speed is sickning. Any advice on things I could check would help.

I have the same combo and my Ergo launches like a rocket. What are you using for your muffler. The OS50 likes lots of volume in the exhaust (i.e. the jr 46 muffler does not work well). I am currently running a 60 size pipe on mine. I have also used the KSJ46 size muffler with decent results. I run coolpower 30% here in Phoenix. I will be changing the gear ratio as I seem to be in the top of the torque band and the motor turns pretty high with the stock ratio of 9.78.

tmkhoop Are you using the stock 9 tooth pinion? If so try the 10 tooth. Will help the OS 50 run more efficient from what I am told.
The engine can run abit lower RPM to achieve the same headspeed with some extra power in reserve. I am going to be running the 10 tooth in my Ergo 50.

Hi! It could be many things, but try the simple, free ideas first. I assume the gear ratio is stock, and since the heli is designed for a 50 size engine, it will probably perform very well in it's current setup. I don't know your skill level so don't take offense. My suggestion would be to get the engine tuned out well. Two or three clicks of the needle valve does wonders for my Raptor. I use the Venom onboard and infrared style thermometers to monitor the engine temp so I can lean it up as much as is safe. This makes the difference between a total dog and a rocket for me. Worth a try. Best, Dave

Same Problem

I have the same setup and am having the same problem that was described above (lack of power). One other thing, even with the larger tank upgrade and a header tank my flights are less than 6 minutes. I know that because I time each flight with my transmitter.

I have been turning the needle valve in 3 clicks at a time with little results. How many turns out are you guy's using with the OS 50? 1-1/2, 2...??

Thanks, Steve

Only 6 minutes? Really? That sucks. I am still putting mine together so not ready for first flight for awhile still but I hope it's not that short of flight time.

I fly an Ergo 46 with OS 50, 600mm V blades, bigger tank, 10 tooth pinion,KSJ 46 muffler and 85 tooth main gear(one of a kind) I get 10 min per tank and its got plenty of power.
