e-Align T-REX 450-500-600 > Anyone try a JGF 400DH on your T-Rex?

There has been a lot of questions of which motor to use on a T-Rex and I'm surprised that nobody mentioned the JustGoFly 400DH motor. Stated KV is 3500 (but some say it's actually higher). It's very light and it seems to have good power. More so than the Himax 2025-4200 and doesn't get as hot.

Any thoughts?

A friend of mine is using a 400DH with a 9 teeths pinion. But the oneway bearing in the maingear is damage and he cant fly right now, but as soon he gets the X upgrade we gonna make some measures on it. It weights 542grams with this little motor mounted =)

What headspeed is recommended to the T-rex??
And how much pitch? We are now using +/- 7 degrees.

@pinoy_zoom

I noticed your location is in HongKong. Is the 400DH available in HongKong or did you also order from justgofly? I'm currently located in Taipei and am looking for lesser shipment cost.

It's not a JustGoFly 400DH. It's a Motor Max Motors 400DH.

Yup.

I am using the JGF 400DH. I left the 9T pinion on it and it screams. I get 3700 RPM on the head at WOT so I had to crank down the throttle percentages so it doesn't overspeed. It flies like a large helicopter and the extra power is really great. I especially like the tracking. It is not jumpy like the Shogun and is a real delight to hover.Using Polyquest 1500 on it but right now times are low at around 10 minutes.

I am going to run an 8T on it and the 315 blades next to see if I can get more time on the charge.

3700! And you didnt have to pull your blades out of your drywall WoW I freak out when my shogun gets around 2600. What are you at now? I would like to get my head speed on my Rex up to around 2800-3000 if it will handle it. Mine does well at 2500 now but I think it would be great at 3000 I am just scared to try it as the parts are hard to come by right now.

@Tmorita

Thanks for the info. I knew I saw those motors somewhere in one of the LHS in Taipei.

At 3700 and even 3000rpm headspeed, it's only a matter of time until the bearings in the blade grips separate and shed the blades and trash your helis or kill someone. These are insane head speeds and you are just asking for disaster. I think I'd get my tach calibrated too if I were you.

Scary stuff guys

Boyd-Hoverup, do you think 2500 is to much? I dont know what these will handle? I think mine does well at 2500 but the tail seems a little slow in a stall turn. I think I just need a motor that will not bog at full pitch and then I wont need the very high head speed. My roll rate is great, it is just the tail rotor that I want more from.

I can't say anything about extended service life at 2500rpm as I now run mine all in the 2200-2300 rpm range. I have had blade grip bearings fail on helis with similar designed grips to the T-Rex at the higher rpms. The Zoom/Shogun was one case in point. Put a EVO fiberglass blade completely through the side of a galvanized trash can. If I had pics I'd post them but I don't. The same thing happened on a H'Bird Elite CP. It's a real attention getter when this happens. And when you do the post mortem and see the inner race of the grip ball bearings just separates and lets the blade and grip go zipping off into space............well enough said. Didn't want to hijack this thread. Sorry.

Thanks for the info. I have been flying the TREX at 2500RPM since I really was not comfortable at that speed. Battery time also went up since I am only using about 65% to 70% of the throttle availble.

I also have added thrust bearings to the Blade holders so the Collective and blade rotation around the spindle will be smoother ala 60 size machines.
