Is the R48 mentioned in the manual the green colored liquid included in the kit? There are "Oil", "R48" and "Cyanalyacetate" icons in the manual does the picture of the litte dropper refer to R48?

Thanks in advance.

R48 is the green locktite.

Gotta love Engrish translations!

I had the same question. I didn't know if it was oil or loctite, so I didn't use it. I have to say that the T-Rex directions are pretty bad. All the screws in my directions are identified as " M # x #", but the screw chart has them all as "N # x #" And the English translation is pretty bad.

Does this mean that the dropper icon shown throughout the manual is for locktite? The dropper is shown on many Ball Bearings!!!! What on earth is locktite used on bearings for?

Also where is cyanalacetate used? I don't see any icons in the manual for it's use.

Thanks

Locktite is used on the outside of the bearing to keep it from rotating within the bearing blocks. It's also used on the shafts that go in the bearing to "lock" them to the bearing so they don't slip within the bearing.

The instructions could be clearer about what to use where. Basically, use CA wherever screws go into plastic, use locktite wherever metal goes to metal, and use grease or oil wherever two parts rub together.

There are only two steps in the instruction manual that call out CA use. The first is in step 4 on page three where the two pins are inserted in the bottom of the Main rotor housing (head block). The second is on page 5 in the step showing the assembly of the landing gear skids, end caps and struts. This holds true for both the original and newer "450x" instruction manuals that I have.

I don't recommend using "CA wherever screws go into plastic" as this will make future repairs very difficult ( can you spell Hornet?). Complicating this is the fact that the provided fasteners are relatively soft and have "easy-to-strip heads". I suspect CA'ing the screws will guarantee they will strip. If you can't remove the screws in places like the tailboom mount you will be buying another kit.

I'm totally agreed with Boyd-Hoverup, Don't use a "Glue" with a screw go into plastic. There are 2 places that need to use glue the 1st one is 4 white knobs in landing skid and the 2nd is 2 little pins that attached to main rotor housing.

Buildup

I built the head last night, will continue as I have time. I'd have to agree that using CA no the screws might not be a good idea on this one. The screws are very tiny (think eyeglass screws for anyone who hasn't started yet). They went into the plastic very tightly, my hands were hurting by the end of the night gripping that little screwdriver. They give you 2 screwdrivers and 3 Hex keys, which is good, because I didn't have anything that small in my toolbox to build it.

The instructions called for using Locktight on the bearings in the blade grips, but that can't be right. They were pretty snug in the grips, so I skipped it.

So far, its going together very well though.

I like it better than my pic pro for the moment. I was always afraid I was going to break something every time I touched it, not this thing, it's a tank!

Heh, I guess I should've been more specific. What I should have said was to use a small drop of thick CA just to keep the screws from backing out. Reading my reply again I can just see somebody soaking it with thin CA based on what I said.

Sorry 'bout that!
