I am trying to find the best clear coat out of a can. I don't have the equipment or the cash flow to support a full scale automotive setup. Could someone please recommend the best type and brand to use.

Do I want enamel or laquer?

Thanks,

Chris

Ok, first of all let me state that all clear coats in a can suck. They will yellow with age. Age as in a month or so. Some are polyurethane or epoxy and they have a yellow tinge as you spray them on. The best of the gloss clears is Lustrecoat. Unfortunatly this paint is very nasty and will eat up just about anything not lustrecoat. If you spray over laquer - forget it. Epoxy or enamel need to dry at least two weeks or more.
The best clear is automotive two part. If I have a special project like a fuselage I go to a local autobody shop. Last time it cost me U$60 to clearcoat a 60 size fuse with PPG flexclear. You should get a canopy done for U$20 or a case of beer depending on the painter.

I'll Do It

Hi Chris,

I'll do it for you for $15, plus actual return shipping cost if you don't have any luck finding a body shop. I completely agree with Fritz, DON'T use the rattle can clears!!! It MUST be a catalyzed, two-part material -- period.

E-mail me if you like me to do it for you.
