| Fitting the Hawk canopy.
Yes, Century has two styles of canopy and I agree that the one supplied in the Hawk IV kits is rather unattractive. This procedure works for both canopy styles.
Using the measurements supplied in the manual for the upper left and right sides and mark and make these cutouts, I believe 14mm from the rear edge and the bottom edge. Remove the windshield if you have already installed it. It have used two methods to attach the inside mount, on the canopy.
#1. Cut out two 1/4" (6mm) squares of double sided tape and attach to the inside mount on the two sides that will eventually contact the inside of the canopy. Look at the hook and notice that there is a chamfer on one side, this should be facing backwards. Pull the backing on the tape and position the inside mount on top of the hook and slide the canopy and attach the upper thumb screws without contacting the inside mount. Press and hold the inside mount in place and press the canopy against it to stick the inside mount to the canopy. Presto, perfect location, but be careful when removing the canopy.
#2. After mounting several canopies, I got lazy and repeated the same procedure but instead of using the double sided tape, just took a black "sharpie" marker and made tick marks along the front edge of the inside mount where the holes go through. Again press the canopy against the inside mount and make similar tick marks on the left, right along the centerline of the inside mount, up to the edge of the mount. I also made matching marks on the inside of the canopy that align to the marks on the inside mount. Remove the inside mount, connect the lines and drill the holes. Works everytime. After drilling us rubbing alcohol, Fantastic cleaner or raw fuel to remove the "sharpie" marks.
If you have a raven, I converted my Hawk, you can move the canopy mounts to the rear holes on the upper main shaft bearing. By doing this the holes in the canopy are much better proportioned, almost centered in the sides. The canopy is physically moved forward around 1" (25mm) and still fits very well. I tried this on the Hawk IV canopy but extra width tends to force the sides of the canopy outwards, curving the bottom slightly. It didn't look horrible, but I switched the the newer canopy and it fit like a dream.
