Robbe Cuatro - Millennium - Nova - Dyna-X > YS80 Milli Pinion gear-Main gear meshing

Hey whats up fellas? I got all kind of "TRAUMA DRAMA" kickin' off with this new YS80 conversion. Check this..

I recently converted my milli from the YS61 to the YS80. I also purchased the conversion pinion gear and have installed it. The pinion gear installed effortlessly. However, I have noticed that the meshing is VERY tight. Did I say VERY tight? I meant VERY, VERY TIGHT!!! I am assuming that the meshing is probably way too tight to fly with. The main gear does rotate(barely) but it takes alot of force to get the main gear to even move!! I am used to having my Robbe's very free and smooth. Has anyone experienced a tight meshing problem with the new pinion gear for the YS80 in a Milli? And is there a fix? Granted I can Dremel the holes on the side frames to gain more space to loosen the meshing on the main gear. But I doubt that is what Robbe intended. Let me know whats up.

Hi Newtron I just finished building my milli 80. There is more to it then installing the right gear ratio. You have to install motor shims. You can find them on ricks web site. You will also have to slot the upper pinion bearing block holes.

My gear mesh is so smooth and it has not been in the air yet. I will see if I can find the part # for you for the shims. They are 0.8mm thick.

Hope this helps

Chris,
You da man!! Thanks dude. Let me know what you can.. I did not obtain any additional info regarding the conversion. I figured there had to be something else but I didn't want to make it up. I ain't McGyver! Also Chris I appreciate you responding is such a way that did NOT making me feel like a Jerry's kid...

The pinion gear I purchased didn't say "jack BONE" about motor shims or anything else. Oh well, I guess thats all part of the fun. Anyway, please try to get me that part number. And what's your problem?? Get that dang Milli in the air!!! Don't let me have to come down there.

Gear for Heli

You MUST use shims, as well sometimes to cut the holes of starting block.
make sure every thing goes smooth before you start the engines

Hi Newtron the part is #S4164. After you install them all you have to do is slot the holes in the upper frame a little and you are done. Set the gear mesh and you are up flying.

I will have the milli up this weekend, I have been taking my time getting it together and making sure it is perfect. Hey what paddles are you guys using on your milli's?

Hey Chris & Alex,
Thanks for the info. Chris, we are currently doing some R & D on paddles. But some use a carbon fiber copy of the X-cell pro II paddles. There are so many different setups here it's hard to distinguish. They all "work" for the most part. My Milli likes anything with a rounded leading edge airfoil and about 28 -30 grams (carbon fiber). The pointed edged paddles just aren't smooth enough and do not accomodate my style of flying. Bryce Hatfield of "Exclusively Graphite " is custom making paddles in different weights, sizes and airfoils. If you come a cross a good paddle/setup let me know..

Thanks again for the info..

Paddles on Milli

1) Pick up the stock purple paddles and THROW them as far as you can into the bushes.

2) Install a set of V-Paddles with the flybar weights about half way out.

3) Enjoy!

4) Move flybar weights all the way in.

5) Enjoy heli perfection!

No more "nervous" hover and the same (or better) roll rate than those purple P'sOS.

Paddles

Yes Blair those V paddles are good. What would you say the roll rate is? About a roll a second or faster?

Yup

Pretty close I'd say. I've slowed mine down to about 1.5 seconds.

Reality and my memory are two different things though...

Hi Clay yes I switched to the milli from the rappy. I had a in flight failure with the rappy and have not been happy since.

I have some email for you very soon for the tube bearings, sorry it has taken me so long. I will let you know how it goes with the milli when I get her in the air.

Thanks for the info on the paddles guys, A friend has a set of pro2k padles that have no wieghts in them I think I will try them out, they worked great on my vigor when I had it.

I tried the V paddles adn they are too slow with no weights at all, very stable no dought but slow. Hollow proII's are faster and more stable and hold up better to boot.
I got some V paddles anyone want them at a good price?

Pro II paddles

Chris,

The pro II paddles are an excellent paddle. I've got a couple pair with no weights. They are some of my favorites. The carbon SAB paddles are great too.

Hey blair, Instead of chucking those razor paddles, just put a stick in em and you can use them for a kitchen utensil or stir paint,

Update

Hello

i promised to update on the "soft" Pinions
well, i did contact the manufacturer, Swing in Germany.
After 1 hour of conversation, he explained and somehow it does make sense, that the problem become only if you dont use the Plastic cover on the bearing block.
about the softness, the pinion is made from 2 parts, the inner sleeve and the pinion itself, so the pinion is a harder material, and the inner sleeve is the softer.
He confirmed that he sold over thousands of those, and normally people didnt complain about that.
I know this person personally and he is a techical and CNC person, so i suppose he knows what he telling.

I hope that i gave you some light on that issue.
if you dont do any thing wrong, there shouldnt be a problem.
