Ok,
I fly here in san diego= sea level, yesterday i was putting around when my engine just quit and had to make an auto. after inspection glow plug works, fuel is new, needle valve was set at the factory setting 1.5 turns when i was flying 15%. ended up pretty close to 2 turns on 30% ( just started using it). smoked like kuwait. wondering if rich mixture caused flame out? got it home and started messing with the valve and set it to 1 turn using the pinch test. (revs up and starts to die after 3 -4 sec.) so exactly where is everyones setting at? and where do you fly altitude etc. just wondering if anyone else is running this lean?

I'm a newbie so reader beware

My high end needle on os32sxh with CP15% heli is at 1 turn. The manual said 1.5 turns but it runs best at 1 turn. I can only guess this is because of the pressurized exhaust feedback from the muffler (century cn3033).

I am in northern virginia (not sure of elevation) probably close to sea level?

So yes there is at least one other person running that lean or more lean than you But again I'm a newbie.

how long have you been flying on that lean mixture? how hot does it get? any fluctuations thru the throttle curve?
thanks, probably going to give it a test run tonight, when less aircraft in the air.

needle settings

3/4 turn on the main needle valve and 2&1/2 on the Mixture controll valve! The engine will not run any other settings it is missing badly at these settings but here is the best I can get it. I have tried fuel, plugs pitch even took it to sea level no improvement . I usually fly at 7,000 feet can't get the engine to run smooth. Thanks Mike

Do you have the modified spraybar for the 46? I've read that that makes a big difference with the 46FXH.

Say what ?

I didn't know of any mod's for the os-46 the darn thing is so sensitive it makes each tank of fuel a whole new experience. Where would I find such a thing? Thanks for any help as I have one terriable time with this thing

Basically at some point OS changed the spraybar to fix the low/mid range problem.

Hope the links help, I remember seeing a drawing of the modified spraybar somewhere but can't recall where - there was a hole drilled into the low end part of the spraybar - basically opening it up more at low throttle.
