I just bought a Hyper for my Raptor 50, if it was an option I would've got it over the standard O.S 50. I haven't installed it yet, but this is why I'm converting:

Pros:

- More power
- Better fuel consumption

Cons:

Bigger head, need to dremel the carbon plate

I have just changed out my Webra 52aar for an OS50sx-hyper.
I could never get the engine tuned right and run the same 2 days in a row.
The only problem I had was that I removed the washer that the fan screws down onto because it was pushing the clutch up into the housing and binding.
Once I removed the washer and refitted, I started it and it ran like a dream. Three tanks through it a bit rich but the webra gave me about 12mins hovering and the OS is looking like 18+mins hovering.

i have both: a standard 50 and a hyber 50 in two different helis. the hyber has a 60 size carburertor for mid range adjustment and more power and suppose to have a better luburcation in the bearings. my runs great and cool. i run coolpower 30% in both mine. if i had it to do over both would be hybers.

Im curious as to exactly WHERE people are hearing it has better bearing lubrication. The only differences between the Hyper 50 and the "regular" are the carb, and the head, neither of which would have an effct on bearing longevity.

I've been running two sx-h .50's for about a year. Both run great. I recently installed the sx-h hyper and immediately noticed that it runs much cooler. Here's a link to some of the improvements:

http://www.osengines.com/engines/osmg1951.html

  • weighs less
  • more power at higher headspeeds
  • runs smoother from better head design
  • better cooling
  • looks cool

Updated Parts

rob10000

One of my flying buddies just got a OS 50 Hyper and we did some part number comparisons and found what you said to be true.

Another claim they make is that it is lighter. The hyper head is surely bigger and so is the carb. If this is the only two parts that are different I wonder where they get the weight loss. I guess the hyper head could be lighter with all the grooves in the heat-sink head, but it is hard to believe.

No big deal but just wondering about the OS weight loss claim????

P.S. I saw Dan fly his new Hyper last night and it seems to have Plenty of power, even when running on the rich side. Looks like that baby will be ready for Mulberry.

i've installed Hyper on my Raptor 50 V2. more power and better efficiency on fuel consumption, probably becuase of the better cooling that hyper made. I am impressed about the improvement that hyper made.

I think the best way to determine if it is lighter is to weight it, not just look at it. If you notice the weights that OS indicates for the 50 Hyper and the 50 standard you will see the Hyper is lighter. The Hyper is said to weigh 406g and the standard 50 is said to weigh 413g. Theres a difference of 7g which could be from a different type of metal in the cylinder heads. Maybe it switched to a low carb and high oil/nitro diet or something like that?
